Rutgers basbeball’s 2024 transfer Joey DeChiaro is showcasing his talent in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer. DeChiaro, an Old Dominion transfer, is a left-handed pitcher from Flemington, N.J. He will use his final year of eligibility as a Scarlet Knight.

While playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer, DeChiaro has pitched 24.1 innings for the Brewster Whitecaps. He holds a 4-1 record to go with his 3.32 ERA. Also, he’s recorded 19 strikeouts, seven walks, and 14 hits in his ten appearances this summer.

In late July, DeChiaro earned the start for the East All-Star team, striking out two batters in his one-inning pitched. He is the league leader in wins, tieing with Sean Matson from the Orleans Firebirds with four. DeChiaro’s best performance this summer came against Harwich, when the new Scarlet Knight pitched two innings, striking out four batters in a 7-1 victory.

DeChiaro was a four-year reliever for the Monarchs and made a career-high 20 appearances this past season. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed reliever recorded 22.1 innings pitched for the Monarchs last season, recording a 1-0 record, two saves, and a 4.43 ERA. Also, he struck out 22 batters, allowed 22 hits, and walked ten batters.

He allowed just one run over his last seven appearances for Old Dominion, holding opponents to a batting average of .262. Also, DeChiaro pitched in the C-USA Tournament against Louisiana Tech, not allowing a hit or a run in 2.1 innings.
