Russell Wilson shoots down trade rumors linking him to Giants

Is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson prepared to waive his no-trade clause if shipped off to the New York Giants?

That’s what Jordan Schultz, who runs a podcast on Kevin Durant’s Boardroom platform, reported on Wednesday. The news immediately went viral despite lacking any form of substance.

This report followed another by NFL Network stating that Seattle remains committed to Wilson long-term. However, with rumors of Wilson’s potential New York interest dating back several years, it was enough to catch fire.

Now Wilson is here with the fire extinguisher to put it out.

“I did see it cause somebody sent it to me,” Wilson told reporters on Thursday. “No. That’s not in my head right now at all. I didn’t say that. I’m focused on what we’re doing here. Obviously I love Seattle. This is a place that I’ve loved every day, every moment.

“[This] is a non-story.”

Wilson, who has been unhappy with the team’s recent roster build, added that he’d prefer to remain in Seattle for the rest of his career.

Even if a divorce does materialize, the Giants are in no position to make a play for Wilson. They may have the draft assets, but they do not have the salary cap space nor do they have the wiggle room to neglect other areas of their roster. And if Wilson is unhappy with his current offensive line, he certainly wouldn’t be any happier with the Giants’.

End-of-year speculation is always fun, especially when certain teams are circling the drain, but that’s all this is. Wilson is not going to waive his no-trade clause at the moment and the Giants don’t have the space to acquire him.

Sorry for the early coal in your stockings, Giants fans.
