Russell Wilson returned to Seattle for the first time since being traded to Denver and his reception was less than warm, as the Seahawks captured a tense, one-point victory over the Broncos. Elsewhere in the NFL, Saquon Barkley’s sportsbook odds are skyrocketing after his vintage performance in Week 1 and Jets coach Robert Saleh is saving receipts from the haters. JARED QUAY: Russell Wilson returns to Seattle for the first time since being traded to the Broncos during the offseason. But you would think the guy responsible for the only Super Bowl in franchise history would get a warm reception from the fans, right?
[BOOING]
Damn. Did Seattle import Boston's fans to fill the stadium?
- Sounds like it.
JARED QUAY: The 12th man was definitely a factor as the Broncos committed a handful of false starts and fumbled the ball outside the end zone a couple of times. Russ went 29 of 42 for 340 passing yards and a touchdown. But his former backup Geno Smith held it down, going 23 of 28 for 195 yards and two touchdowns. And the home team, Seattle, came away with a 1-point victory.
Saquon Barkley's stand-out performance on Sunday did not go unnoticed. After week 1, the Giants' running back is the betting favorite to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award at +500.
- Hot damn.
JARED QUAY: Saquon wasn't even listed on the odds boards during the offseason, but 194 total yards, a touchdown and a 2-point conversion was apparently enough to do the trick. I'll put my money on Saquon-- no questions asked. As for putting my money on New York's other football team-- well, that's a different story.
- So it's a no for me.
JARED QUAY: The Jets staged a crash landing of sorts in week 1, suffering a 24 to 9 home loss to the Ravens.
- No surprise there.
JARED QUAY: On Monday, head coach Robert Saleh called out those who criticized his team and predicted that at some point they'll eat their words.
ROBERT SALEH: We're all taking receipts on all the people who continually mock and say that we ain't going to do anything. I'm taking receipts, and I'm going to be more than happy to share them with all of y'all when it's all said and done.
JARED QUAY: With a 4 and 14 record since Saleh became the head coach, I doubt the receipt sharing will happen any time soon. But put me on bulletin board, Coach. I'm happy to help.
The Ravens were doing some legit multitasking on the sideline Sunday while they were whooping the Jets.
- I'm kind of mad, though, because I got DuVernay on both my fantasy teams, but I didn't start him.
- Lob nearside-- looking for DuVernay-- end zone, reaches up, makes the catch. Touchdown Ravens.
JARED QUAY: That's my bigger brother, Calais Campbell, bragging on himself for having his Raven teammate Devin DuVernay on his fantasy squad. DuVernay balled out with two touchdowns on Sunday. The problem for my bro is he benched DuVernay. So his fantasy team missed out on 17 points.
- That was a mistake.
JARED QUAY: And damn, Calais could have used those points because his squad guys killed in our league. I bet Devin is thinking that Calais got what he deserved for benching him. But then again, no one really thought he was going to ball like that. I don't think Devin thought he was going to ball. He was like, man, I should've started myself.
