The Rush: Heisman winner Devonta Smith hurts hand, but helps Tide roll to another championship
Alabama defeated Ohio State in the CFP National Championship Game behind a historically strong performance by Heisman winner Devonta Smith, the Philadelphia Eagles parted ways with head coach Doug Pederson, the Dallas Cowboys hired former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn to be their defensive coordinator, and Chase Claypool and the Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t ready to relinquish the spotlight just yet.

JARED QUAY: The season that almost wasn't finally has its champion. Alabama defeated Ohio State to win its 18th title in school history and its fifth in the last 10 years. The big star of the game was DeVonta Smith. The boy could not be contained.
The Heisman Trophy winner had three touchdowns and 215 yards in the first half alone. Good god, that boys a beast. He left in the third quarter with a hand injury, which is a really tough break. But my guy broke so many records in the first half, he ain't even need to come out in the second half. Assuming he's healthy by the time the draft comes around, he's going to make some teams real disappointed that they selected Ja'Marr Chase instead. It's always about the NFL at the end of the day though, right?
On a pretty quiet day for the NFL, a head coach sole the headlines. And no, I'm not talking about Dan Quinn's new job as the Cowboys defensive coordinator. That is kind of crazy though. Ah, I get it. Jerry Jones is trying to capture a little bit of that 28 to 3 defensive magic.
I'm talking about Doug Pederson. After he gave up on the season just a quarter too early, the Eagles gave up on him. Philly parted ways with the head coach just three years after he led them to a Super Bowl victory.

JARED QUAY: Now, I'm no couples counselor, but this has to be about the relationship with Carson Wentz, right? Please explain Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie.
JEFFREY LURIE: It's not based on a quarterback or a particular position group.
JARED QUAY: Only time will tell if that's a lie or a big ass lie. As for Pederson, he said being Philly's head coach was an absolute honor. Which is a classy way to handle PR. But here's another way.
CHASE CLAYPOOL: You know, a bad loss. But Brown's going to get caught next week. So it's all good.
JARED QUAY: That was Steelers receiver Chase Claypool putting exactly zero respect on the Browns name. Put some respect on their name, bro. They beat you.
Who do the Steelers play this week on the schedule? Hmm, that's weird. I don't see them. Ah, hah! That's what you get, man! You don't beat the Ravens. The Ravens will win the championship.
