The Rush: 49ers outshine Rams in Odell Beckham and Von Miller’s L.A. debut

The L.A. debut of stars Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller is overshadowed by a huge 49ers win over the Rams, Cam Newton vies to be Carolina’s QB1, the Minnesota Timberwolves are fined a pretty penny for having fun in Miami and the Miami Hurricanes’ search for a new athletic director is off to a strange start.

- All right, let's see how early and how often they go to him. Stafford's looking his way immediately. And there it is! That took about 11 seconds. Let's get them right in the game, right?

JARED QUAY: Los Angeles was on the road in San Francisco for Monday Night Football. Well, we got our first glimpse at the newly acquired Rams, Odell Beckham, Jr., and Von Miller. In fact, I think the 3 and 5 49ers were more hyped for the new Rams stars than the Rams, because San Francisco beat the hell out of LA.

- Ward stays on his feet-- end zone! Touchdown!

JARED QUAY: The 49ers got their first home win in 393 days and outplayed LA in every phase of the game.

- And it's Samuel breaking away! Touchdown, 49ers!

JARED QUAY: My favorite play didn't even count. But behold, the reverse foot fumble.

- --up in the air! That's intercepted!

JARED QUAY: As for the Rams, OBJ finished the night with two catches, 18 yards, and Miller logged three tackles. So the only place to go from here is up. In Carolina, it looks like we might have a new quarterback 1.

CAM NEWTON: I'm back! I'm back!

JARED QUAY: Panthers coach Matt Rhule says he expects Cam Newton to practice with the first team this week after Sunday's impressive two-touchdown performance. If all goes well, we can expect Cam to start this Sunday when Carolina hosts former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and the Washington Football Team.

- The drama!

JARED QUAY: Man! The drama, the swagger-- see, that's what I miss the most about Cam. Check out this gem from Cam and Alex M. Grant on Twitter.

ALEX GRANT: In this morning's devotion, I was reading about Moses-- and God spoke to Moses in the desert. Where we at? Know what I'm saying? Come on.

JARED QUAY: Yo, Cam has zero chill. In fact, Cam just taking off his helmet and yelling earned him a frickin' penalty because, you know, it's the No Fun League. You know what's almost as dumb as that NFL penalty? The NBA fined the Minnesota Timberwolves $250,000 because the team had dinner with Alex Rodriguez in Miami. A-Rod is a minority owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and back in September, the team spent a week in Miami and chilled with him. Problem is, teams aren't allowed to organize or pay for off-season workouts outside of their home market.

- Lame.

JARED QUAY: At the University of Miami, things aren't going so great either. My alma mater parted ways with its athletic director, Blake James, yesterday, which isn't a big shock considering the men's football, basketball, and baseball programs haven't been good for a hot minute.

- Here's where things get really interesting.

JARED QUAY: There's a report that former Miami athletes are going to meet on a Zoom call to discuss the state of the athletic department and will make the recordings of the conversation available to the public.

- Oh, really?

JARED QUAY: Which is crazy because I'm a former University of Miami football player, and I ain't received no Zoom link. I looked at all my emails, even the spam. I don't see nothing.
