Rouse baseball player Gavin Silva, who pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 13 batters to lead the Raiders past Cedar Park in their Class 5A regional quarterfinal series, was voted the Covert Chevrolet Bastrop Austin-Area Boys Athlete of the Week for May 13-18.

Silva received 71% of the vote. LASA tennis player William Gu, Westwood baseball player Owen Norrell, Westlake tennis player Luke Riezebeek, and the Westwood tennis doubles team of Danny Zhang and Leon Chen also were candidates.

Rouse baseball player Landon Miller won the previous poll, for May 6-11.

The American-Statesman conducted weekly votes for Boys Athlete of the Week and Girls Athlete of the Week throughout the academic year.
