ROUNDUP: Tigers fall to Maroons in girls tennis

Oct. 3—Robinson's No. 1 singles player Annie List picked up her 16th individual victory of the season and led the Maroons to a 7-2 win over visiting Paris in Illinois girls high school tennis play Monday.

List climbed to 16-1 for the year with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Paris' Emerson Barrett. Robinson's team improved 9-3 for the season going into Tuesday's match at Mattoon.

Paris (now 11-5 overall) got victories from No. 3 singles player Bella Moreschi and its No. 1 doubles duo of Barrett and Graci Watson. Coach Stefan Aydt's Tigers play host to Flora on Wednesday.

Also Wednesday, the pairings will be determined for Saturday's Little Illini Conference meet at Paris.

Prep volleyball

—West Vigo 3, Brown County 2 — At West Vigo, the Vikings outlasted a potential sectional opponent by scores of 20-25, 28-26, 20-25, 25-18, 15-11 on Monday.

The Vikings and Eagles could meet in the semifinals of the Class 3A Northview Sectional on Oct. 14, if the Vikings beat Owen Valley in their sectional opener.

—Linton 3, Bloomfield 0 — At Bloomfield, Class 2A's second-ranked Miners won 25-7, 25-9, 25-13 on Monday.

Linton, 24-7 overall and 7-0 in SouthWestern Indiana Athletic Conference play, has now won 35 straight SWIAC matches.

College golf

—Sycamores eighth after first day — Indiana State stood in eighth place after Monday's first 36 holes of the 2023 Butler Fall Invitational at the Highlands Country Club in Indianapolis.

Final-day play resumed Tuesday and those results weren't available at presstime.

On Monday, Briana LeMaire stood tied for 12th in the field. LeMaire was 6-over-par, four strokes back from the top five in her third tournament of the season. Kristen Hobbs was 9-over and in the top-25 players in a 16-team field.

Indiana State was 37-over-par and turned in scores of 298-299 to sit with a two-round score of 597 in the field. The two-round total is a season-best for the Sycamores as ISU sits one stroke back of Belmont (+36) and Dayton (+36) and six strokes behind Loyola (+31) in the battle for a top-five position in the team standings.

UIC (+12) led the team standings through the first day, while Morehead State (+15) and Butler (+19) were both in the top three.
