ROUNDUP: Knights sweep Wildcats for 10th win in boys tennis

Sep. 19—Northview swept all three singles and both doubles matches for a 5-0 boys high school tennis victory over host South Vermillion on Monday at Clinton.

The Knights raised their overall record to 10-4 going into Wednesday's Senior Night home match against Western Indiana Conference opponent Owen Valley.

Singles — Brayden Goff (N) def. Brayson Shoults 6-3 6-2; Derek Morrison (N) def. Walt Beardsley 6-1 6-0; Joshua Fowler (N) def. Zane Matherly 6-1 6-0.

Doubles — Caden Schrader-Kamden Kellett (N) def. Landon Downs-Cael Buddle 6-1 6-1; Zac Buell-Gavin Roark (N) def. Coleman Rice-Luke Guinn 6-0 6-0.

JV — Northview won 3-0.

Next — Northview (10-4) plays host to Owen Valley on Wednesday, which will be Senior Night.

In other prep tennis:

—Sullivan 5, Linton 0 — At Linton, the visiting Golden Arrows picked up their 17th victory of the boys season, beating the Miners on Monday. That sweep followed Sullivan's 3-2 victory at Bloomfield on Friday.

Coach Wes Kirk's Arrows (17-5 overall) will play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Terre Haute South.

—Paris 9, Casey 2 — At Paris, Ill., the Tiger girls team won all seven singles matches, enough to outdistance Casey's two doubles victories on Monday.

The victory boosted Paris' record to 8-2. Coach Stefan Aydt's Tigers played a rescheduled match Tuesday at Robinson.

—Robinson 9, Charleston 0 — At Robinson, Ill., the host Maroons' top two singles players, Annie List and Lauren Staller, both got their 12th individual victories of the season Monday as the girls team swept the Trojans.

Robinson is now 5-1. List's personal record is 12-1, while Staller's is now 12-3.

Girls soccer

—Edgewood 5, Sullivan 1 — At Ellettsville, the Golden Arrows scored a second-half goal, but the host Mustangs scored twice in the first half and three times in the second to secure the victory Monday.

College honors

—HCAC recognizes four Engineers — A foursome of Rose-Hulman athletes earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference awards this week, including cross country runner Elsa King, football's Andrew Toler, volleyball's Lily Ebright and soccer's Lily Doré.

King was named the HCAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. She ran a 19-minute, 12-second effort in the 5-kilometer race at the John McNichols Invitational at Indiana State en route to a 79th-place finish in the meet amid Division I competition.

Toler, a punter, was named the HCAC Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Engineers' 48-19 loss to Albion on Saturday. Toler recorded nine punts with an average of 45.6 yards per punt. His 410 total punting yards ranks as the fourth most in a single game in school history.

Ebright earned HCAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third consecutive time this season and the seventh time out of the last 11 dating back to last season. She recorded 109 digs for 9.08 digs per set last weekend at the Augustana Invitational.

Doré was named the HCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Doré made a career-high eight saves in goal for the Engineers en route to her third consecutive clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with the DePauw Tigers.

—Rose hires Vinson — Rose-Hulman has named James Vinson as associate athletic director for communications and public relations.

He returns to Rose after serving as a graduate assistant in sports information during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 academic years.

Vinson spent the past three years as sports information director at Illinois College in Jacksonville.
