Roundup: Huntington, Piketon advance to Division III sectional finals

SOFTBALL

Huntington 21, South Point 0: The Huntsmen cleared their Division III sectional semifinal with ease after stomping the Pointers on Tuesday evening. Mackenzie Paugh gave up just two hits during her five innings on the mound, and she struck out nine batters as well.

Olivia Tackett hit a home run, batted in three runs and scored twice to end the game 1-for-4. Savannah Bushatz went 4-for-4 with three doubles, five RBIs and four runs, and Leah McCloskey went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.

Nora Moore hit a double and batted in a run, and Makenzie Tackett went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Taylor Tisdale picked up two hits, two runs and an RBI, and Rylee Nolan added two hits and two runs. Allie Baker also put up a hit, an RBI and two runs.

Piketon 13, Federal Hocking 3: The Redstreaks routed the Lancers to punch their ticket to a Division III sectional final on Tuesday. Camryn Campbell pitched five innings, giving up one earned run and striking out nine in the process. Campbell also hit a double while at the plate.

Zoey Fuchs went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Renee Hill put up two hits, two runs and an RBI. Kyndall Carroll notched two hits and two RBIs, and Danika Ritchie ended the game with one hit, three RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases. Natalie Cooper chipped in a hit, a run and an RBI.

BASEBALL

Adena 12, Whiteoak 7: The Warriors picked up a huge nonconference win after ousting the Wildcats on Tuesday. Entering the seventh inning with a 7-7 tie, the Warriors scored five runs and shut the Wildcats down to walk away with a win.

Andrew Vickers logged five RBIs and scored a run for the Warriors, and he ended the game 3-for-5 with a double. Mason Dyer hit a double of his own, and he went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Christian Heath added two hits, two runs and an RBI, and Easton Henness put up two hits and two runs. David Magill tallied a hit and three RBIs, while Cameron Stoops added a hit and a run.

Austin Magill got the win on the mound for the Warriors after pitching four and one-third innings. He gave up five earned runs on four hits and struck out four batters.

Piketon 4, North Adams 3: The Redstreaks mounted a massive comeback to score all four of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep their winning streak intact. Zack Hannah secured the win after knocking in a two-run single in the seventh inning, and he ended the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Cayde Conley added two hits and a run, and Wayde Fout went 1-for-3 with a run. Gage Dofflemyer batted in a run, while Garrett Moore and Ashton Cormany each notched a hit.

Conley also got the start for Piketon, and he allowed three earned runs while striking out a pair of batters. Grayson Roberts closed the final one and one-third innings to notch the win, and he didn't allow a hit while on the mound.

Huntington 21, McClain 3: The Huntsmen cruised to a nonconference win after routing the hosting Tigers on Tuesday. Isaiah Schmidt pitched all five innings, during which he struck out seven and gave up two earned runs on five hits. Schmidt also went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Corbin Long hit a pair of doubles, batted in three runs and scored once. Dalton Black hit another pair of doubles, and he added on two RBIs and four runs. DJ Crocker went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and three runs, and Seth Throckmorton went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Matthew Jordan went 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs. Braylon Leach added three hits, two runs and an RBI, and Ryan Porter went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.

Jackson 6, Zane Trace 5: The Pioneers suffered a narrow loss to the visiting Ironmen on Tuesday evening. Isaiah Kysor and Rece Allen each pitched two innings of relief. Kysor allowed two hits and struck out a batter, while Allen gave up just one hit.

Allen also led the offense after going 2-for-3 with two runs. Drew Lane added on a hit and batted in a run, and Landen Jarrell went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
