Roundup: Heath baseball withstands Johnstown rally

Tannar Patterson struck out the final four batters Thursday, securing the Heath baseball team’s 7-6 victory at Johnstown in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Patterson also had two hits, three runs scored and an RBI for the Bulldogs (12-6, 10-2), who maintained their half-game lead on Newark Catholic. Cooper Bradley and Riley Baum added two hits and a run scored apiece in support of Hayden Woodward, who allowed one earned run in 5⅔ innings.

Chase Boroff and Cole Boroff had a hit, a run scored and an RBI apiece and Evan Harper a hit and two RBIs in a six-run sixth for the Johnnies (6-9, 4-7). Jacob Myers added a hit and a run scored.

NC blanks Utica

Eli Morris struck out four in five two-hit innings and Anthony Robertson finished off Newark Catholic’s 9-0 victory against visiting Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Kane Stephey had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Green Wave (13-4, 9-2). Bryan McAnally and Troy Johnston added two hits and an RBI apiece, Mikey Hess a hit and two runs scored and Theo Talbott a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Roman Gamble, Aidyn Burgess and Tyler Collura each singled for Utica (7-11, 4-8). Connor Garee allowed just an unearned run in 2⅓ innings of relief.

Lakewood beats Northridge

William Marrero struck out six in three no-hit innings, and he, Matt Smith and Luke Pierce combined for 12 strikeouts for Lakewood in an 11-1 victory against visiting Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Cayden MacDonald had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Lancers (8-10, 6-5). Colton Ferry added two hits and two runs scored, Marrero a double and two RBIs and Smith a hit and two RBIs.

James Kalas doubled and scored for the Vikings (2-14, 0-11).

Watkins beats Heights

Sam Johnson recorded a hit, two runs scored and an RBI for Watkins Memorial in a 6-2 victory against visiting Licking Heights in LCL-Buckeye play.

Cole Massie added a hit, a run scored and two RBIs and Ethan Ryan two runs scored for the Warriors (14-6, 11-0). Trace Hartman struck out five in a five-hitter.

Jonah Hane tripled and scored, and Tyler VonBargen added a hit and an RBI for the Hornets (8-12, 5-6). VonBargen struck out 10 and allowed two hits in five innings.

Granville wins

Nolan Tracy hit a two-run double and an RBI single for Granville in a 6-2 victory against Danville at Denison.

Spencer Beckett added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, Jakob Culver two hits and a run scored and Drew Cottrell a hit and two RBIs for the Blue Aces (8-9). Kevin Clark struck out two in 3⅔ scoreless innings of relief.

Valley blanks Zanesville

Adam West had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Licking Valley in a 10-0 victory against visiting Zanesville (3-16, 0-10) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Trent Clark added a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs, Theo Walsh a hit, two runs scored and an RBI and Hayden Rodgers a double and two runs scored for the Panthers (11-4, 8-3). Kolton Chaney, Evan Roberts and Brody Bishop combined to strike out three in a five-hit shutout.

Liberty wins at home

Luke Mollohan had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI out of the leadoff spot, fueling Liberty Christian in a 5-2 victory against visiting Delaware Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Parker Griffin added two hits, a run scored and an RBI, Evan Dupler a hit, a run scored and an RBI and Caleb Windle a hit and an RBI for the Eagles (7-6, 7-3). Dupler struck out six and allowed three hits in 4⅔ innings.

Newark falls at home

Newark scored three runs in the fifth inning but the potential tying run was thrown out at the plate in an eventual 6-3 loss to visiting Pickerington Central (13-5, 8-2) in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Seth Fish led the Wildcats with two hits and a run scored, and Thomas Olon and Bodie Smith added a hit and a run scored apiece and Max Durbin a two-run double for the Wildcats (12-5-1, 7-4). Jayce Dansby struck out three and allowed two unearned runs in three innings of relief.

SOFTBALL

Valley wins at Granville

Sylvie Devore and Taylor Penick each had three-hit games and combined for two runs scored and three RBIs, igniting Licking Valley in an 11-7 victory at Granville in LCL-Buckeye play.

Abbe McNabb added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Addison Justice a three-run home run for the Panthers (11-7, 5-6). Rylee Pitt struck out seven.

Taylor Warehime had three hits and two runs scored for the Blue Aces (16-5, 7-4). Sophia Patena added a home run and three RBIs, and Morgan Layne and Emily Travis also homered.

NC beats Utica

Veronica Bailey struck out eight and allowed one earned run in a three-hitter, pitching Newark Catholic to a 6-3 victory against visiting Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Kami Diaz doubled and singled, scored a run and drove in two runs for the Green Wave (12-8, 6-5). Ava Heffley and Addi Gerber added a hit and a run scored apiece and Mya Stokes two RBIs.

Emily Meyers and Lexi Wiegand had a hit and a run scored apiece, and Lauren Schmitt added a two-run single for Utica (4-14, 2-10). Karleigh Lees allowed two earned runs.

Watkins cruises

Cortney Dobbs had three hits, including a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs, powering Watkins Memorial to a 14-2 victory at Northridge, wrapping up a third consecutive LCL-Buckeye Division title for the Warriors (20-0, 10-0).

Maleya Thompson added two hits, a run scored and two RBIs, Ava McKee a hit and two RBIs and Taylor Gerhardt a home run and two RBIs. Carsyn Cassady struck out four in two one-hit innings.

Kenzie Hannahs hit a solo home run for the Vikings (1-16, 0-12), and she also scored the other run. Ellie Reese added a single.

Newark rolls

Alasandra Spears and Jaylen Jackson each homered as a part of three-hit games, combining for six runs scored and six RBIs for Newark in a 15-3 victory at Groveport in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Brooke Nelson and Syncere Royster added two hits and three runs scored apiece, totaling five RBIs and Sarah Sickels two hits, a run scored and an RBI for the Wildcats (16-7, 7-2). Jackson, Royster and Marleigh Crawford combined for nine strikeouts.

Heights drops home game

Lily Meidl had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Licking Heights in a 6-3 loss to visiting Fredericktown.

Evie Hays added a hit and a run scored and Kaylyn Hopf two hits for the Hornets (10-10).
