Roundup: Hannahs muscles Northridge softball to win at Utica

Kenzie Hannahs hit a grand slam and tripled Friday, powering the Northridge softball team to a 16-8 victory at Utica, giving the Vikings (2-16, 1-12) their first Licking County League-Cardinal Division win of the season.

Ellie Reese and Josie Van Fossen added three hits apiece, combining for five runs and four RBIs and Maddie Reese three hits, a run and an RBI and Addison Moore two hits and two RBIs. Emily Hanes allowed three hits and two earned runs in 4⅓ innings.

Kaitlin Evans homered and tripled, driving in three runs for Utica (4-15, 2-11). Lauren Schmitt added three hits and a run, Emily Meyers a hit and two runs and Karleigh Lees a double and two RBIs.

Johnstown cruises

Dakota Staffan’s grand slam highlighted a six-run fourth inning in Johnstown’s 12-2 victory at Newark Catholic in LCL-Cardinal play.

Macy Walters and Addie Triplett also homered as that duo and Staffan combined for nine hits, eight runs and 11 RBIs, and Jenna Hochanadel added two hits and two runs for the Johnnies (18-2, 12-1). Staffan also struck out four and allowed no earned runs in five innings.

Maris Knowlton hit a solo home run for the Green Wave (12-9, 6-6). Kylie Gibson added two hits, including a double, and Kami Diaz a hit and a run.

Heath blanks Lakewood

Sydney Chapman and Renae Cunningham combined on a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts, pitching Heath to a 9-0 victory against visiting Lakewood in LCL-Cardinal play.

Sydney Cottrell had three hits, a run and an RBI for the Bulldogs (12-10, 8-5). Kyndall Spicer added two hits and three runs, Cunningham a solo home run and three runs and Shelby Moore a hit, two runs and two RBIs.

Audrey Thomas had two hits and Carly Williams and Abby Colley a hit apiece for the Lancers (10-10-1, 4-7).

Newark falls at home

Newark was held to two hits in a 4-0 loss to visiting Lancaster (16-4, 10-0) in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Meah Morris and Dez Osler each singled for the Wildcats (16-8, 7-3). Syncere Royster struck out four.

BASEBALL

Newark wins on road

Austin Rose had three hits, two runs and two RBIs for Newark in a 12-2 victory at Central Crossing (5-14, 2-9) in OCC-Buckeye play.

Max Durbin added a hit and three runs, Owen Poole a hit, two runs and an RBI and Seth Fish a hit, a run and two RBIs for the Wildcats (13-5-1, 8-4). Jayce Dansby struck out six and allowed no earned runs in a six-hitter.

Utica wins at home

Roman Gamble was 4 for 4 with a triple and four runs out of the leadoff spot, igniting Utica in an 11-1 victory against visiting Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Jordan Hartman added two hits, including a double, a run and four RBIs, Connor Whisner two hits and an RBI, Tyler Collura a hit, a run and two RBIs and Matthew Hite a hit and two runs for Utica (8-11, 5-8). Braxton Fisher struck out three in six four-hit innings.

Alex Wright had a hit and a run, Quentin Felhofer a hit and an RBI and Braxton Ankrom two hits for the Vikings (2-15, 0-12).

Heath rolls

Jaiden Dansby was 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs, leading Heath to a 10-0 victory against visiting Lakewood in LCL-Cardinal play.

Conner Corbett added two hits, including a triple, two runs and an RBI, Tannar Patterson two hits and three RBIs and Cooper Bradley a hit and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (13-6, 11-2), who continue to lead Newark Catholic by a half-game and host the Green Wave on Tuesday. Riley Baum struck out six in a two-hit shutout.

Tyler Bebout doubled and singled for the Lancers (8-11, 6-6).

NC blanks Johnstown

Braylon Bates struck out nine without a walk in a two-hit shutout for Newark Catholic in a 5-0 victory against visiting Johnstown in LCL-Cardinal play.

Eli Morris totaled three hits, including two doubles, two runs and an RBI for the Green Wave (14-4, 9-2). Kane Stephey added two hits and two RBIs, Rocco Capretta two hits and a run and Bryan McAnally a double and a run.

Clay Bruning struck out six and allowed two earned runs in five innings. Garrett Grinstead and Jacob Myers each singled for the Johnnies (6-10, 4-8).

Gregory leads Granville

Alex Gregory struck out five in a five-inning no-hitter for Granville in a 13-0 victory against visiting Zanesville (3-18, 0-11) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Ezra Kurek and Jakob Culver had a hit, a run and three RBIs apiece for the Blue Aces (9-9, 4-6). Nolan Tracy added a hit, three runs and an RBI and Spencer Beckett a hit, a run and two RBIs.

Valley cruises

Evan Roberts struck out the side in the fifth inning, combining with four pitchers on a five-inning no-hitter for Licking Valley in a 15-0 victory against Danville at Don Edwards Park.

Evan Lichtenauer totaled two hits, including a triple, two runs and four RBIs for the Panthers (12-4). Brenden Moore and Hayden Rodgers added two hits, two runs and an RBI apiece, Adam West a hit, a run and two RBIs and Carter Hartman a double, a run and two RBIs.

Liberty beats Genoa

Aiden Geiger recorded two hits, two runs and two RBIs, sparking Liberty Christian in an 8-5 victory against visiting Genoa Christian.

Luke Mollohan added two hits and two runs, Joel Mollohan a double, a run and two RBIs and Mason Kampii a hit and two RBIs for the Eagles (7-6). Jack Chabot and Jacob Elkins combined for 10 of the 14 strikeouts racked up by five pitchers.

GCA ties

Noah Tice doubled twice, scored a run and drove in two for Granville Christian in a 7-7 tie after nine innings against visiting Shekinah Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Wes Arnholt added a hit, a run and an RBI and Bentley Johnson two runs for the Lions (3-5-1, 2-4-1). Johnson struck out seven and allowed two earned runs in six innings, and Josh Benvie struck out two in three hitless innings.

TRACK

Brazier takes 800

Adam Brazier ran a time of 1:56.20 to win the 800 for Watkins Memorial during the Larkin & Crosten Classic at Upper Arlington.

Jaeden Ricketts, John Apel, Joseph McIntosh and Elijah Hardiman added a runner-up finish in the 800 relay (1:29.48), and placing fourth were Apel in the 400 (50.27) and Aidan Johnston pole vault (12 feet) for the Warriors.

In the girls meet, Victoria Harvey won the pole vault (12-6) for Watkins. Elise Adelman took runner-up in the discus (119-3) and shot put (35-10.75) as did Cameryn Wheeler in the 800 (2:22.97).

BOYS LACROSSE

Newark wins at home

Max Frost’s hat trick and three assists led Newark to a 13-5 victory against visiting Lima Senior.

Oheneba Asemso, Brayden Tosi, Austin Reed and Drayson Peterson added two goals each and Jibreel Smith and Luke Miller a goal and two assists apiece for the Wildcats (7-7). Matt Johnson, who recently surpassed 300 career saves, made 10.
