Roundup: Alex Boles pitches a gem to lead Waverly past Oak Hill

BASEBALL

Waverly 6, Oak Hill 1: Alex Boles was almost untouchable on the mound as he guided the Tigers to a big Southern Ohio Conference win over the Oaks. Boles allowed just two hits through all seven innings, and he notched an astounding 15 strikeouts along the way.

Peyton Harris went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and LT Jordan also went 2-for-3 with a run. Jase Hurd hit a home run, batted in two runs and scored twice, and Boles added on a hit and a run. Ben Nichols went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Jamison Morton added a hit and a run.

Zane Trace 2, Paint Valley 1: The Pioneers shuttered the Bearcats out of the final six innings to pick up another Scioto Valley Conference win on Wednesday. Dillon Hoover picked up his second win on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out five batters. Ezra Rippeth recorded the save after pitching the final three innings and striking out another five batters.

Austen Ison led the Pioneers on offense after going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Landen Jarrell went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base, and Josh Young went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

John Free hit a triple and batted in a run for the Bearcats, and he ended the day 2-for-3 at the plate. Preston Fauber added another two hits and scored the Bearcats' lone run of the game.

Huntington 7, Piketon 4: After the Redstreaks scored three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game, the Huntsmen regained the lead and held on to pick up a win on Wednesday. Andrew Oyer picked up the win after pitching the final two and one-third innings for the Huntsmen, during which he struck out two and allowed just one hit. Dalton Black got the start, and he struck out eight while allowing three earned runs on six hits.

Ryan Porter batted in two runs on two hits for the Huntsmen, and Caiden Stewart picked up three hits along with an RBI and a run. Matthew Jordan hit a double, scored twice and batted in a run, while DJ Crocker went 2-for-2 with two runs and three stolen bases. Black notched two hits and an RBI, Isaiah Schmidt went 1-for-2 with a run and Black went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Christian Horn batted in two runs and scored once for the Redstreaks, and he ended the game 2-for-4 with a triple. Cayde Conley went 3-for-4 with a run, and Garrett Legg went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Buddy Wilson tallied one hit and two runs for the Redstreaks as well.

Adena 4, Southeastern 3: The Warriors broke a stalemate with the Panthers in the eighth inning on Wednesday to come away with a win in extra innings. Caleb Osborne, who scored the winning run on a wild pitch, ended the game with two walks and three stolen bases to his name. Austin Magill went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run, and Easton Henness went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Andrew Vickers and Christian Heath added hits as well. Mason Dyer and David Magill scored runs in the win.

Austin Magill also earned the win on the mound after pitching three innings of relief for starter Cameron Stoops. Magill allowed just two hits and struck out four during his time on the mound.

Tyler Brown and Hunter Drake both led the Panthers after going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Brown also stole a base. Carson McWhorter chipped in a hit, and he also scored a run.

Unioto 6, Westfall 1: KB Perkins allowed just one run on three hits and struck out 11 batters as the Shermans picked up a win over the Mustangs on Wednesday. Perkins pitched a complete game, and he walked just two batters in that span.

Ashton Crace went 2-for-3 with a run for the Shermans, and Landyn Patterson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Keegan Snyder hit a double and tacked on an RBI, while Andrew Griffin batted in a run and added on a walk. Isaiah Leeth also went 1-for-3 and scored a run.

Trent Walters went 1-for-3 for the Mustangs in the loss, and he also scored their lone run of the game. Jaden Towler and Cade Hall both picked up hits as well.

SOFTBALL

Unioto 5, Westfall 4: The Shermans avoided extra innings with the Mustangs after Megan Miller hit a sacrifice fly to score Alexis Book in the bottom of the seventh inning. Miller ended the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Book walked twice while scoring a run. Morgan Daniels, Abbie Marshall and Amaris Betts each went 1-for-3 with a run, while Ava Dettwiller batted in a run.

Hannah Hull pitched a complete game for the Shermans, striking out one and allowing four runs on 11 hits to earn the win.

Olivia Dumm went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Mustangs, and she also struck out seven during her six and one-third innings on the mound. Delana Landefeld and Emma Henry both went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Ava Heth went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Sydney Fuller also went 2-for-3 and batted in a run.

Zane Trace 11, Paint Valley 0: Brynn Wipert allowed just one hit through five innings and struck out six as the Pioneers shut out the Bearcats on Wednesday. Wipert also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Abby Guffey logged on hit, batted in three runs and scored once in the win. Alayna Butler hit two doubles, notched two RBIs and scored twice. Lexi Scott went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs, and Kinley May hit a double and scored a run. Mikki Wooten put up two hits and an RBI, and Gracey McCullough went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Huntington 6, Piketon 4: Mackenzie Paugh pitched a complete game and held the Redstreaks to six hits as the Huntsmen picked up a win while on the road Wednesday. Paugh walked eight batters, but she also notched five strikeouts in the win.

Savannah Bushatz logged a hit and batted in two runs for the Huntsmen. Leah McCloskey went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Makenzie Tackett notched one hit and two runs. Allie Baker went 1-for-3 with a run, and Rylee Nolan also scored a run.

Camryn Campbell pitched a complete game for the Redstreaks, striking out nine and two earned runs on five hits. Natalie Cooper hit a triple and scored a run, and Kaylee Maynard notched an RBI and a run. Grace Hauck went 1-for-1 with a run, and Ashlyn Elliot batted in a run.

Adena 5, Southeastern 4: Adena pulled away with a win late after scoring a run in the seventh inning to secure a win over Southeastern on Wednesday. Greenlee Bossert pitched a complete game for Adena, striking out three and allowing two earned runs in the win. Bossert also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while at the plate.

Emma Garrison batted in two runs for the Warriors, and Caelan Miner tacked on a run and an RBI. Adriana Guarnieri went 1-for-3 with three runs, and Kiera Williams went 1-for-3 with a run.

Erin Richendollar pitched all seven innings for the Panthers, striking out three and allowing two earned runs on six hits. She also went 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a walk at the plate. Grace Brown hit a double and scored a run, and Grace Wireman went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run and a walk. Morgan Ware picked up two hits, an RBI and a run, and Reese Ruckel went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
