Rookie CB Garrett Williams to start season on NFI

The Arizona Cardinals selected cornerback Garrett Williams in the third round of the 2023 draft. He was coming back from a torn ACL he suffered during his final season at Syracuse.

While he believed he would be ready to practice in August, that did not happen and he has been on the non-football injury list (it was an injury sustained away from the team), making him ineligible to play.

He is not ready yet to play. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said he will start the season as he has been.

“He’s doing well,” he told reporters Monday. “He’s going to start on NFI, I think.”

Gannon said Williams has “responded well” to having a lot given to him while he is still unable to practice.

Starting the season on NFI means that a player must miss at least four games before he can even practice.

The Cardinals have a plan for his rehab and for his return. So far, things are going well.
