Roff softball team scores and scores and scores

Mar. 22—SASAKWA — The Roff Lady Tigers scored four touchdowns and kicked a field goal in a road matchup with Sasakwa Tuesday afternoon.

Or at least it seemed that way.

Coach Eric Hardison's squad needed just two innings to bury the Lady Vikings 31-0.

Roff improved to 7-6 on the year, while Sasakwa dropped to 0-3. The Lady Tigers were scheduled to host local foe Latta Thursday before another local squad — the Byng Lady Pirates — visits Tiger Field on Friday.

All 10 players in the Roff lineup had at least two hits in an incredible 26-hit barrage. Eight of those hits went for extra bases.

Junior Sophie Eldred continued her hot streak at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Emma Hardison, Brianna Bess, Kaylie Cranford and Shelby Ensey all had three hits apiece. Hardison finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored; Ensey went 2-for-3 with a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored; Bess finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored; and Cranford ended up 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Mallori Rogers went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored; Keela Scott went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored; Madysson Becker finished 2-fo-r3 with three RBIs and three runs scored; Payton Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored; and Zayla Kirkland finished 2-fo-r2 with two walks, a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

The Lady Tigers were also able to take advantage of nine walks.

Alexis James cracked a double for Sasakwa and Stephanie Lemmings had the only other SHS hit.

Rattan ends Tupelo win streak at eight

RATTAN — The Tupelo Lady Tigers saw their season-opening eight-game win streak come to an end with a 14-6 loss to host Rattan Tuesday at the Rattan Slowpitch Festival.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Tigers had edged Whiteboro 5-4.

Coach Dustin Romines' squad, now 8-1 on the year, was scheduled to host local foe Allen Thursday and travel to Ada next Monday.

Rattan 14, Tupelo 6

Class 3A Rattan — which improved to 9-0 with the victory — trailed 6-5 before exploding for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game via the run rule. Tupelo had taken the lead with a five-run volley in the top of the fifth.

The Lady Tigers collected 10 hits, led by senior Jaycee Stringer finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Maci Gaylor went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Ava Sliger finished 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Liz Sliger drove in a run and scored a run for Tupelo.

Rattan piled up a whopping 23 hits. Gracie Williams finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Lady Rams. Selena Taylor went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored and Danica Gurnick ended up 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Hailee Couch went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored for Rattan, which hit a total of 10 doubles.

Tupelo 5, Whitesboro 4

Freshman Lainee Wafford hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Tupelo the dramatic win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Ava Sliger drew an intentional walk to lead off the inning and Maci Gaylor hit into a fielder's choice for the first out before Wafford crushed the first pitch she saw over the fence in left field.

Wafford finished 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored in a seven-hit THS offense. Jaycee Stringer went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Ava Sliger was intentionally walked in all four of her at-bats.

Linley Collins finished 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a double for Whitesboro. Emilee Edwards went 3-for-3 and drove in a run.

Stratford splits pair in Rattan

RATTAN — The Stratford Lady Bulldogs dropped a tough 7-5 decision to Calera before bouncing back with a 10-0 victory over Soper Tuesday at the Rattan Slowpitch Festival.

Stratford is sitting at 4-4 on the year. The Lady Bulldogs will compete in the 2024 Red, White and Blue Tournament Monday at Tuesday at Asher High School.

Calera 7, Stratford 5

The game was knotted at 5-5 before Calera snagged the victory with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Stratford collected seven hits in the contest, led by Callee Ortega who finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Kennedy Layton hit a double.

Aaliyah Wesley led Calera at the plate. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Makenna Owens finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Taylynn Conder finished 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored for the CHS Lady Bulldogs.

Stratford 10, Soper 0

Senior Launa Raymo blasted two home runs to help the Lady Bulldogs power past Soper. She hit a two-run homer in the top of the second inning and another two-run shot in the top of the fourth inning, giving the Lady Bulldogs their 10-run cushion. Raymo finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Tinley Dempsey finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Stratford and Haylee Dickerson went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Callee Ortega finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Callie Sandlin also added two hits to a 13-hit SHS offense.

Kennedy Layton went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored for the locals.

Soper had just three singles from three different players — Josie Gardner, Jaylee Campbell and Makayla Carriger.
