A rocket launch, then a crash! Fans in Daytona get quite a show at Coke Zero Sugar 400

For a brief moment, the action on the track wasn't the biggest star of the Coke Zero Sugar 400.

The fans at Daytona International Speedway were watching the tail end of the second stage of the final race of the NASCAR regular season. About 70 miles south, SpaceX was launching a Falcon 9 rocket carrying Starlink internet satellites from Cape Canaveral.

On a clear night (an uncommon occurrence in recent years at the often rain-soaked speedway), the sight of the rocket blasting into orbit can be seen for hundreds of miles. And race fans at Daytona got a great view, sharing what they saw on social media.

About 50 miles southwest of Daytona Beach, soccer fans at the Orlando City vs. St. Louis City match at Exploria Stadium in Orlando also got to see the rocket launch.

The rocket wasn't the star for long, though. Shortly after the launch, Ty Gibbs started "The Big One," a crash that took out nearly half the field at the end of the race's second stage. The race was stopped for about 20 minutes.

The NBC crew airing the Coke Zero Sugar 400 didn't make mention of the launch or show visuals. The exclusion was noticed.
