RiverHawks snap losing streak with walk-off win

Mar. 29—The Northeastern State University RiverHawks snapped their 10-game losing streak with a walk-off win over Newman.

After a back-and-forth pitching matchup saw the game go into the bottom of the seventh inning, tied 0-0. With one out, Macie Sawney drilled a ground ball up the middle for a single. With some smart base running, Sawney was able to steal second base when the ball got out of NU's hands.

Raegen Burchill then struck a single up the middle, moving Sawney to third base.

It didn't look like she was going to score after stopping up at third base, but an errant throw gave her the green light to take off for home plate.

Sliding headfirst, Sawney beat the tag to take the win.

The win gave the RiverHawks their sixth win of the year.

NSU and NU continued their doubleheader shortly after the first win, with the score tied 0-0 in the second inning at time of publication.
