River Queens stay perfect with sweep over Muscatine

Apr. 5—CLINTON — The Clinton River Queens tennis team stayed perfect on Thursday afternoon, sweeping the Muscatine Muskies in a Mississippi Athletic Conference matchup.

Once again the Queens hosted inside at the River Cities Tennis & Pickleball Courts where Sescie Haan got Clinton started in singles, sweeping her way to an 8-0 win over Zara Stoltzfus.

Maddie Rowden battled with Muscatine's Maya Simpson, getting the win 8-3 while Elizabeth Grinnall defeated Olive Schmidt 8-1.

Katie Atkinson and Nora Brown each recorded 8-0 sweeps to dominate the back half of singles play. Lou Gonzales joined the Queens and took care of business in the five hole with an 8-3 win.

In doubles play, Haan and Rowden swept their way to yet another victory, defeating Stolzfus and Schmidt 8-0.

Grinall and Atkinson also stayed hot, securing another win, this one 8-2. Capping off the day was Gonzales and Josie Srp who recorded an 8-0 sweep as the Queens defeated Muscatine 9-0.

Clinton will compete at the Byrnes Park Tennis Center Saturday an 9 a.m.
