Rick Sweet is now Nashville Sounds winningest manager and 5th in minor league history
Rick Sweet became the Nashville Sounds' all-time winningest manager Sunday in the final game of the regular season.
The Sounds' 8-4 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at First Horizon Park marked Sweet's 321st victory. Sweet, 71, surpassed Trent Jewett (1998-2000, 2003-04) as the winningest manager since the franchise was established in Nashville 45 years ago.
Sweet has 2,275 career wins, which ranks fifth all-time in minor league baseball history. Next on the list at fourth is Buddy Bailey, who is at Single-A Myrtle Beach, with 2,357 wins.
Sweet set the Sounds record in one less season than Jewett. Sweet was with Nashville in 2014, then returned in 2021.
Next on the list behind Jewett is Rick Renick (1993-96) with 309 wins; Frank Kremblas (2005-08) with 299; and Don Money (2009-11) with 223.
Sweet has posted a 321-248 record with the Sounds, who finished the regular season 83-65.
Four Sounds players were named 2023 Milwaukee Brewers Robin Yount Performance Award recipients, given to the Brewers minor league players and pitchers of the year. Jackson Chourio and Tyler Black were the co-players of the year and Robert Gasser and Carlos Rodriguez were co-pitchers of the year.
