The Republic's 2023-24 All-Arizona girls' high school volleyball team, Coach of the Year

Here is The Arizona Republic's All-Arizona girls volleyball team and coach of the year for the fall 2023 season. Players are listed in alphabetical order. Members of the All-Arizona girls volleyball team are nominees for Girls Volleyball Player of the Year, which will be announced at the Arizona High School Sports Awards, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath, on June 17 at Arizona Financial Theater in downtown Phoenix.

Alyssa Aguayo, Jr., OH, Tempe Corona del Sol

Aguayo had big shoes to fill this fall, replacing 2022 All-Arizona selection Kierstyn Barton as Corona del Sol’s primary offensive threat. The Illinois commit rose to the challenge all season, leading 6A with 511 kills and helping guide the Aztecs into the 6A semifinals.

Kenna Cogill, Jr., MB, Gilbert Perry

Not only was Cogill one of the best defenders in the state, finishing second in 6A with 111 blocks, but she was also a crucial offensive weapon for the Pumas. She led 6A with a .448 hitting percentage and knocked down 2.6 kills per set. She is committed to Oregon.

Raechelle Dykstra, Sr., OH, Buckeye Verrado

For the second straight year, Dykstra dominated 5A competition, showing why she’ll be continuing her career at Gonzaga next year. She averaged 5.2 kills per set while leading the conference in hitting percentage and digs.

Brooke Harwood, So., OPP, Mesa Eastmark

Eastmark’s season might have ended prematurely, with an upset loss to Tucson Salpointe Catholic in the 4A quarterfinals, but that shouldn’t take away from the season Harwood had. The 6-foot-3 sophomore took a big step forward from her freshman season, leading 4A with 541 kills — 123 more than anyone else in the conference.

Evan Hendrix, Sr., OH, Notre Dame Prep

Hendrix, who has been among the state’s best players since her sophomore year, capped off her career with another dominant campaign. She finished second in 5A with 509 kills while also ranking in the top 10 in hitting percentages and recording the third most aces. She is set to play collegiately at TCU.

DyBorrah Johnson, Jr., MB, Queen Creek Casteel

After entering the playoffs as the No. 6 and No. 10 seed the previous two years, Casteel earned 5A’s top seed this fall. The Colts reached that level in large part because of Johnson, who led 5A with 100 blocks. She came up big when it mattered most, tying a career-high with 18 kills as Casteel beat Waddell Canyon View in the quarterfinals.

Tessa Larkin, Fr., OH, Phoenix Xavier Prep

Xavier Prep is one of those programs that never seems to miss a beat — a consistency attributable to its ability to add players like Larkin, who stepped in as a freshman and immediately looked like one of the best players in Arizona. She led the Gators with 3.8 kills per set and only got better as the season went on.

Izzy Mahaffey, Jr, L, Queen Creek

Mahaffey helped lead Queen Creek into the 6A semifinals as one of the state’s best liberos, recording 427 digs and combining excellent positioning with impressive athleticism. She is committed to Long Beach State.

Talea Mitchell, Sr., MB, Goodyear Millennium

After five straight years of reaching the 5A championship game, 2023 seemed like it could be a down year for Millennium following the graduation of Eryn Jones. Instead, her old teammates stepped up, led by Mitchell, who finished second in 5A with 98 blocks while knocking down 244 kills.

Shannon Sheehy, Sr., S, Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor

It’s been a while since Arizona saw a team as dominant as this year’s version of O’Connor. The Eagles became the first 6A champion with one loss or fewer since Xavier Prep went undefeated in 2010. Sheehy was the cog at the center of that success, recording 625 assists. She’s committed to San Francisco.

Teraya Sigler, Jr., OH, Scottsdale Horizon

Sigler wrapped up her junior season with her third state championship in three tries — one at Phoenix Country Day, two since transferring to Horizon. Sigler showed why she earned a scholarship to national runner-up Nebraska, leading the state with 614 kills (73 more than anyone else) and doing so with an efficient .337 hitting percentage.

Devyn Wiest, Jr, OH, Sandra Day O’Connor

While Sheehy was O’Connor’s steady presence in the middle, Wiest was its explosive outside hitter. She dominated opponents all season long, finishing fifth in 6A in kills (349) and sixth in hitting percentage (.314). In the Eagles’ state championship game win over Perry, Wiest knocked down a game-high 18 kills.
