Report: Shanahan not on Texans radar if available

If Mike Shanahan’s goal is to get a shot at the Houston Texans job, he might want to rethink his strategy. According to the Houston Chronicle and long-time NFL reporter John McClain, the Texans will not pursue Shanahan nor ESPN analyst Jon Gruden. Gruden has already said he plans to work the 2014 season for the network.

Among the top candidates Houston will look at are former Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt, former Chicago head coach Lovie Smith and Stanford head coach David Shaw. Other candidates are expected to surface in coming weeks, with some speculation being that Kevin Sumlin of Texas A&M and Art Briles of Baylor being possible candidates.
