Maverick Carter, an Akron native and partner and business manager for LeBron James, told federal authorities that he bet on NBA games through a bookie, according to a Washington Post report.

In 2021, Carter told authorities during a single interview during the government’s investigation of Wayne Nix that he’d bet on games but did not recall whether he bet on the Los Angeles Lakers, James’ team.

Nix eventually pleaded guilty to running an offshore betting ring.

The interview took place in 2021 and Carter placed bets from $5,000 to $10,000, according to the report. Carter was not the only prominent individual with connection to the NBA who gambled with Nix. Chicago Bulls great Scottie Pippen placed at least one best with him.

Carter was not charged in relation to the investigation, according to the report.
