Report: Lakers worked out former Nets guard Mike James
Even though the Los Angeles Lakers have had a busy offseason, the work is far from complete.
The Lakers need to finalize three more roster spots on the 15-man roster, and points guards are a must.
Los Angeles has only Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Nunn at point guard, so adding a third piece for depth is a plausible route.
The Lakers recently worked out Isaiah Thomas and Darren Collison, two point guards who haven’t played a full NBA season in a few years.
A name with more recent playing experience under his belt to monitor for L.A. is Mike James, who just finished the season with the Brooklyn Nets, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports:
“The Los Angeles Lakers are actively surveying the landscape to eventually fill out the roster with more depth, and have done so in recently working out Isaiah Thomas, Darren Collison and Mike James, league sources told Yahoo Sports.”
James, who just turned 31, initially played for the Nets on 10-day contracts before Brooklyn inked him to a deal for the remainder of the season. Before he came to Brooklyn, James played overseas in Russia.
In 13 regular-season games, James averaged 7.7 points, 4.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game; he shot 37% overall on 7.1 attempts and 35.5% from deep on 2.4 attempts.
