Report: Kevin Kugler to replace Thom Brennaman on FOX football broadcasts

Thom Brennaman’s removal from the FOX Sports football broadcasting team opened a spot in the booth. The season is nearing and the network has decided on who will fill the spot of Brennaman, who lost his football job after speaking a homophobic slur during a Cincinnati Reds broadcast.

According to The Athletic, Kevin Kugler will step in and be teamed with Chris Spielman and Laura Okmin.

Per The Athletic:

The Athletic has learned that Kevin Kugler will take over Brennaman’s NFL play-by-play role. He will partner with Chris Spielman and reporter Laura Okmin. Kugler has previously filled in for Fox on NFL games and has a terrific reputation within the industry as play-by-play caller.

Kugler actually filled in for Brennaman on a game in 2018. That was a Seattle Seahawks-Detroit Lions game in Week 8.

He has worked for Westwood One, and The Big Ten Network as well as FOX.

Brennaman is out at FOX and under indefinite suspension by the Cincinnati Reds. There has not been any news on what the team plans to do regarding his longterm status.
