Report: Former Ohio State DE Chase Young traded to 49ers, teams up with Nick Bosa

Chase Young and Nick Bosa will soon be on the same defensive line again.

Young, a former Ohio State All-American defensive end who won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year along with numerous other national awards in 2019, was traded from the Washington Commanders Tuesday to the San Francisco according to a report by NFL Network.

According to ESPN, the Commanders will receiver a third-round pick for Young.

After three seasons with the Buckeyes from 2017-19 where he posted 98 tackles, 40.5 tackles-for-loss and 30.5 sacks, Young was the No. 2 overall pick by Washington in the 2020 NFL draft.

With the Commanders, Young was the 2020 Associated Press and Pro Football Writers Association's Rookie of the Year with 44 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and 7.5 sacks.

After his rookie season, Young struggled to see the field, navigating numerous injuries, including, most recently, a neck injury that kept him out of the season opener. Since 2020, Young has played in 19 games, recording 46 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss and 6.5 sacks.

In 2023, Young has 15 tackles, six tackles-for-loss and five sacks.

Young will team up with Bosa, who was selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 draft after recording 29 tackles-for-loss and 17.5 sacks in three seasons with Ohio State from 2016-18. Bosa is the reigning AP Defensive Player of the Year, who has six tackles-for-loss and three sacks through eight games.

The 49ers are off next week before they travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars at 12 p.m. Nov. 12.
