Report: Controversial boxing judge stepping down
CJ Ross, the boxing judge who scored the bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Canelo Alvarez a draw, is stepping down indefinitely, according to Las Vegas TV station 8 News NOW.
Mayweather scored a lopsided victory on the other two scorecards and won the fight, creating controversy about the scoring turned in by Ross.
She also judged the Timothy Bradley-Manny Pacquiao fight last year, and was one of two judges to score the bout in Bradley's favor, despite overwhelming public opinion that Pacquiao should have been awarded the victory.
Ross sent an email to the Nevada Athletic Commission that read: "I will be taking some time off from boxing but will keep in touch," according to a tweet from The Las Vegas Journal.
Ross has been a judge since 1989.
"To her credit, she does not want to take away from the story, being what a dominate performance by Floyd Mayweather. So, she has asked us if she can take some time off. We've agreed," NAC executive director Keith Kizer said, according to 8 News NOW. "It shows the type of person she is. [NAC chairman] Bill [Brady] was very understanding and supportive. He agreed that that was a great avenue to take."
