Report: Colts request interview with Giants OC Mike Kafka

Mike Kafka has done a tremendous job in his first year as the New York Giants offensive coordinator and now has his group humming in the playoffs.

And with success comes opportunity.

Kafka is among the hottest head coaching candidates as the NFL enters that cycle. He’s already had interview requests from the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans, but they won’t be the only ones.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Indianapolis Colts have also requested an interview with Kafka for their vacant head coaching position.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of those conversations and be a part of that process but really that’s all I have to add on it,” Kafka told reporters last week.

The 35-year-old Kafka was hired to Brian Daboll’s staff prior to this season after spending five years with the Kansas City Chiefs. While in K.C., Kafka climbed the ladder from offensive quality control coach to quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.

With the Giants, Kafka earned the right to call plays and has done an exceptional job. Not only did the team finish in the top 15 of scoring, but Daniel Jones has morphed into a quality, long-term franchise quarterback.

Kafka can not officially interview for a head coaching job until after the conclusion of Super Wild Card Weekend.
