Report: Celtics sign veteran wing Svi Mykhailiuk to one-year deal

The Boston Celtics have signed veteran wing Svi Mykhailiuk to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports. Mykhailiuk spent last season with both the New York Knicks and the Charlotte Hornets, and Boston reportedly offered a deal to the Ukrainian-born Mykhailiuk in early August. With training camp rapidly approaching, the Celtics have been looking for ways to finalize the team’s depth chart.

The Los Angeles Lakers selected Mykhailiuk with the No. 47 draft pick back in 2018. This came after four successful seasons with the University of Kansas. During his senior year, Mykhailiuk set the Jayhawks record for most 3-pointers in a single season with 115. Given Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla’s emphasis on 3-point shooting, this could be an important pick up for the club.  Standing 6-foot-7, Mykhailiuk will add a bit of size and athleticism to Boston’s wing rotation as well.

Mykhailiuk shot 40.4% from 3 last year with the Hornets on 4.7 attempts per game. He averaged 10.6 points and 2.7 assists in 22.5 minutes per night as well, including 8 starts for Charlotte in 19 games. Alongside Sam Hauser, Mazzulla now has two players with good size who can also shoot the 3-pointer quite well.
