Report: Brooklyn Nets sign Dennis Smith Jr. to one-year deal

The Brooklyn Nets have made some moves in free-agency already by trading Joe Harris with two second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons for salary relief and re-signing restricted free-agent wing Cam Johnson to a four-year, $108 million contract. The good thing for Nets fans is, it looks like the moves keep coming.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Brooklyn has signed guard Dennis Smith Jr. to a one-year deal. Charania says that Smith Jr. was made a priority in free-agency by the Nets which indicates how important the organization considered addressing depth at the guard position.

Smith Jr., 25, has just finished his sixth season in the NBA and even though he’s not what he used to be during the first few seasons of his career with the Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks, Smith Jr. has developed into a good defender at the guard spot. Smith Jr. is not the most efficient shooter, but he can score when the opportunity presents itself and he is a solid passer.
