Report: Bills interested in Rob Gronkowski again
The Buffalo Bills have interest in signing tight end Rob Gronkowski once again.
According to The Athletic, the Bills will pursue the future Hall of Famer once more this offseason.
A year ago in March 2021, NFL Network reported that the team did have interest in adding the Buffalo native at the time.
Instead he opted to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It was well known that influencing Gronkowski’s decision to re-sign with the Bucs was quarterback Tom Brady. However, Brady recently retired.
If Gronkowski wants to continue to play after signing a one-year deal last offseason, could the Bills be a realistic option?
There are a few layers.
Plenty of that answer might have to do with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey.
The 33-year-old has retired himself once before, but in Buffalo he would not play No. 1 tight end snaps. Those would continue to go to Dawson Knox, but if “Gronk” talks to the Bills and sees a fit–it’s possible.
Additionally, Brady could still factor in. Gronkowski has gone on the record himself in recent weeks to say he thinks Brady could unretire. Would he follow the QB back to Tampa in that scenario?
The final thing to consider is the reaction from fans in Buffalo.
Gronkowski has previously touted his hometown many times in the past.
There’s still that whole cheap shot on cornerback Tre’Davious White to consider. Will fans overlook that?
If it helps the Bills win their first Super Bowl–they just might.
Currently Spotrac estimates Gronkowski’s value at $9.5 million per year.
With Gronkowski’s injury history and age, that might be a bit high. Bare minimum, that size of a contract would be an incentive-based one.
