Report: 5-star SF Mookie Cook to reclassify to 2022 class, join Ducks this season

The Oregon Ducks news cycle was humming on Thursday afternoon when the announcement came that 5-star small forward Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook was committing to Dana Altman and agreeing to play his college ball in his home state of Oregon.

News surrounding this has gotten interesting, though, with The Athletic reporting that Cook, who is ranked as the No. 4 player in the 2023 class, will be reclassifying to the class of 2022 and joining the Ducks this coming season.

If this report is true, Cook would be joining a star-studded class that already includes 5-star C Kel’el Ware, who is ranked as the No. 10 player in the 2022 class, and 5-star PG Dior Johnson, the No. 23 player in the class.

Of course, this report has also been refuted by longtime Oregon recruiting analyst Andrew Nemec, who is now the Director of Recruiting at SBLive Sports.

We will search for a clear answer in the coming days about when Cook will actually join the Ducks and start his college career, but it was made clear on Thursday that he plans to return to his home state of Oregon and join Dana Altman’s team whenever he does transition to the next level.
