RCTC baseball team wins three of four games over the weekend

Apr. 14—La CROSSE, Wis. — The Rochester Community and Technical College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Western Technical College on Sunday by posting a pair of easy wins.

RCTC won both games in five innings, taking the opener 22-5 and the nightcap 20-4 and the Yellowjackets hit 10 home runs in the process. The two teams had split a pair of games Saturday in Rochester with the Yellowjackets winning the opener 4-3 and Western Tech taking the second game 4-1.

The Yellowjackets pounded seven home runs in the first win on Sunday as Rees Campanale and Griffin Olson hit two each.

Campanale finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs and four runs scored and he also hit a double. Olson also hit two homers and a double as he finished 5-for-5 with three RBIs and five runs scored.

Ian Provenzano pinch hit for Campanale later in the game and he hit a two-run homer. Augusto Mungarrieta finished 2-for-5 with a homer, four RBIs and four runs scored. Luis Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored while Riley Forbes was 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Clement Febus earned the win for RCTC as he allowed one earned run on two hits over the first 4 1/3 innings.

In Sunday's second game, Rodriguez had another huge game as he was 2-for-3 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored. One of his home runs was a grand slam.

Ramon Teran hit a home run, had four RBIs and scored three times while Rochester's Caleb Beavers hit a double and drove in three runs.

Olson also had another big game as he went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Mungarrieta was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Zach Carr pitched all five innings for the win. He allowed four earned runs on four hits and struck out nine.

RCTC improves to 15-11, 7-1 in the South Divison of the MCAC. The Yellowjackets will host the University of St. Mary's JV at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
