Ravens reportedly target Pagano to serve as DC

Chuck Pagano might not be out of work long.

The Baltimore Ravens want to make Pagano their defensive coordinator, the Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday, though it was unclear if the interest was reciprocated. The news comes just two days after Pagano was fired from his job as the Indianapolis Colts' head coach.

Dean Pees, 68, retired from his role as the Ravens' defensive coordinator on Monday. The 15-year NFL veteran, he began guiding the Baltimore defense in 2012, a season that ended with the Ravens winning the Super Bowl.

Pagano, 57, posted a 53-43 record as the Colts' head coach from 2012-17. He led Indianapolis to the playoffs each of his first three year on the job, culminating with a trip to the AFC Championship Game after the 2014 season.

The Colts finished 8-8 in both 2015 and 2016, then slumped to 4-12 in 2017, prompting his ouster.

Before joining the Colts, Pagano was the Ravens' secondary coach from 2008-10 and Baltimore's defensive coordinator in 2011. He has prior coaching experience with the Cleveland Browns, the Oakland Raiders and six Division I college programs, including the 2007 season as North Carolina's defensive coordinator.

According to the Sun, Ravens linebackers coach Don "Wink" Martindale is the top in-house candidate to replace Pees on head coach John Harbaugh's staff.
