Rangers place C Tyler Pitlick on waivers after Monday's healthy scratch
The Rangers have placed fourth-line center Tyler Pitlick on waivers after he was a healthy scratch for Monday night's game against the Calgary Flames.
23-year-old center Adam Edstrom made his second NHL appearance in place of Pitlick, and he held his own in the 2-0 win, recording three hits across nine minutes of ice time.
With Pitlick on the outs, it appears the Rangers may be looking to give the former sixth-round pick an extended look in their bottom six ahead of the trade deadline.
Edstrom scored in his first career game earlier this season, but he's been more of a defensive-minded forward and reliable penalty killer for Hartford across 25 games this season.
Head coach Peter Laviolette offered some high praise for the youngster ahead of Monday's contest.
"Edstrom is a guy who played well for us earlier this year," Laviolette said. "He was playing well at the time he got the recall, but we sent him back because we needed to, and he got banged up shortly after that. We want to get him back up here in the mix and get him some reps moving forward."
Pitlick, on the other hand, has seen his ice time decrease dramatically as he's recorded just one point across his last 12 contests and a total of four on the season.
He has 24 hours to be picked up by other teams off waivers, otherwise he'll remain with the organization and will be assigned to Hartford.
