Rangers F Buchnevich out indefinitely with concussion

New York Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich suffered a concussion on a hit by Toronto Maple Leafs defender Jake Gardiner during Thursday's game and is out indefinitely, according to multiple reports.

The Rangers only announced Friday that Buchnevich is out with an upper-body injury.

Buchnevich was struck on the jaw by Gardiner's elbow during the second period of the Rangers' 4-0 loss and did not return. The 22-year-old is tied for second on the Rangers with 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists) in 50 games.

While Buchnevich is sidelined, Jimmy Vesey will move up to his line alongside center Mika Zibanejad and winger Rick Nash.

"This is a great opportunity ... for a guy like Jimmy, who all year long has been begging for more ice time, and now he's getting an opportunity to play with Mika and Nasher," coach Alain Vigneault told reporters. "He's gotta elevate his game. Our team has got to elevate their game."

The Rangers enter Friday one point behind the Philadelphia Flyers for the second Eastern Conference wild-card spot at 25-21-5 (55 points).
