Randy Sanders set for Greater Knoxville Area Sports Hall of Fame induction

Former Tennessee quarterback and assistant coach Randy Sanders will be inducted into the Greater Knoxville Area Sports Hall of Fame Thursday.

Sanders retired as East Tennessee State’s head coach following the 2021 season. He led the Buccaneers to an NCAA Division I FCS playoff appearance.

Sanders played for the Vols from 1984-88 under head coach Johnny Majors.

He later served as Majors’ quarterbacks coach and remained on the Vols’ coaching staff in various roles, including offensive coordinator, under head coach Phillip Fulmer.

In nearly two decades as a Tennessee coach, Sanders was part of the Vols’ 1998 national championship team.

During his tenure at Tennessee, the Vols won four SEC championships and four SEC East titles.

Sanders served as an assistant coach at Kentucky and Florida State.

He retired from East Tennessee State with a 26-16 record.
