Rams will receive two 3rd-round compensatory picks for losing Raheem Morris

The Atlanta Falcons have zeroed in on Raheem Morris and plan to hire him as their next head coach. That’s bad news for the Los Angeles Rams, who will have a void at defensive coordinator – and they’re some big shoes to fill.

On the plus side, the Rams will be compensated for losing Morris thanks to the NFL’s initiative that rewards teams for minority coaches and executives being hired for more prominent roles. Because Morris was hired as a head coach, the Rams will receive a third-round compensatory pick in each of the next two drafts.

They got the same when Brad Holmes was hired as the Lions’ new general manager in 2021, so this is the second time they’ve had a minority coach or executive leave to become a GM or head coach in the last three years.

The Rams hired Morris as their defensive coordinator in 2021 and they immediately won the Super Bowl in his first season. He remained in Los Angeles for the last three years but will now get a new opportunity as the Falcons’ head coach.
