Rampage 4, Wolves 3
SAN ANTONIO -- The Chicago Wolves are probably happy to be getting out of Texas.
One night after falling to the Texas Stars, Chicago suffered a similar fate Saturday against the San Antonio Rampage in a 4-3 loss at AT&T Center.
The game was Chicago's last in Texas for the season; the Wolves went 1-3 in the state.
The Wolves (12-12-0-2) scored first, but the lead was spoiled as San Antonio (11-14-0-2) roared back to score three goals in the opening frame.
Chicago right wing Mark Mancari tallied 7:28 into the game, receiving a backhand pass from teammate Dmitrij Jaskin to put the puck on net and scoring on the rebound.
Right wing Jed Ortmeyer put San Antonio on the board at 11:08 when he stole the puck on the right wall and drilled a shot that goaltender Matt Climie did not get enough of.
The Rampage struck again four minutes later on the power play as right wing Greg Rallo set up left wing Garrett Wilson in front of the net for an easy tap-in.
A shorthanded goal came next for San Antonio at 16:38. Left wing Quinton Howden intercepted an inaccurate pass by the Wolves and made some pretty moves in front of the net to slide the puck around and behind Climie.
The Wolves rallied twice in the third period to get within one, receiving goals from defenseman Brent Regner and left wing Sergey Andronov.
The Rampage held them off both times, including briefly regaining a two-goal lead 12 seconds into a 5-on-3 power play with a goal from right wing Bobby Butler.
Climie (2-5-0) made 32 saves and Rampage goaltender Michael Houser (5-2-0) kicked out 34.
