Raiders SS Johnathan Abram injured shoulder in Week 2, will start in Week 3

One of the most important players on the entire Raiders’ team this season is strong safety Johnathan Abram. He brings intensity and athleticism to a defense that desperately needs it.

But after a freak Week 2 scare in which he laid motionless after colliding with a television cart on the sideline, there was a real concern that Abram wasn’t going to be available for the Raiders for the remainder of that game. Somehow, Abram managed to pop up, run off the field and return to the contest just a few plays later.

Later in the week, Abram received an MRI and it revealed that he is dealing with a Grade 2 AC Join sprain, along with a chipped collarbone that led to internal bleeding, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The league did an investigation with regards to the placement of the cart, but found that other carts were located in similar spots around the NFL.

As for Abram, he is still expected to play in Week 3 despite his shoulder injury. Through two weeks, Abram has 17 total tackles, a tackle for a loss and a quarterback hit. He’s played 98 percent of the team’s defensive snaps with his only missed time coming after the Week 2 collision with the T.V. cart.

With the Raiders already having several big injuries on both sides of the ball, losing Abram would be one that the team likely couldn’t overcome. The Raiders and Abram have to be breathing a sigh of relief that this scary, fluke accident wasn’t worse.
