Pueblo's top high school games to watch this week: volleyball, tennis, football and more

There is plenty of action this coming week in Pueblo prep sports and that means lots of home games upcoming for you to check out.

This week's action in Pueblo features lots of volleyball and tennis action, some key matchups in football and soccer, and a plethora of softball games to choose from.

Each week, the Chieftain selects the best home games to watch for the week. Here are our selections for the week:

Girls Volleyball

  • Hanover vs. Dolores Huerta Prep at Dolores Huerta Prep High School, at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Widefield vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Hoehne vs. Swallows Charter Academy at Swallows Charter, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Palmer Ridge vs. Pueblo County at Hornet Gym, at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7

  • Pueblo Central vs. Rye at Rye, at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7

The Scorpions are looking to turn things around after a 1-4 start to their season as they take on Hanover this coming week. Also, Central will take on Widefield, and the Spartans host Hoehne all on Tuesday. Palmer Ridge pays a visit to the Hornets next as they take on County on Thursday and Central will travel down the road to Rye to take on the Thunderbolts the same day.

Football

  • Heritage vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7

  • Harrison vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo County High School, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 8

  • Fountain-Fort Carson vs. Pueblo West at CSUP Thunderbowl, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 8

Some key matchups this week on the gridiron as the Central Wildcats look to prove that last week was no fluke by beating the Class 4A Heritage Eagles. County will look to bounce back as they take on Harrison Friday night and the game of the week will be between Class 5A Fountain-Fort Carson and Class 4A Pueblo West.

Boys Tennis

  • Vanguard vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo County at Hornet Tennis Courts, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Discovery Canyon vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo East at City Park, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 7

  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 7

  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo County at City Park, at 9 a.m. on Sept. 8

  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo County vs. Pueblo South at City Park − Pueblo County Invite, at 9 a.m. on Sept. 9

If you love tennis, this is your week to shine as there is plenty of action all week long in Pueblo as Central, County and West all play host on Tuesday afternoon. Vanguard will face the Wildcats while Centennial will face the Hornets and Discovery Canyon will go up against West. Thursday will have East hosting Central and West hosting South. Then on Friday, West will visit County as the lone game of the day. On Saturday, County, West and South will all participate in the Pueblo County Invite which will begin at 9 a.m.

Softball

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Pueblo Central vs. Pueblo County at Runyon Sports Complex Diorio field, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5.

  • Pueblo South vs. Pueblo East at Salas Field, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5

  • Florence vs. Dolores Huerta Prep at Dolores Huerta Prep High School, at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 7

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo South at Runyon Field (Salas), at 5 p.m. on Sept. 7

  • Pueblo West vs. Pueblo County at Runyon Field-DiIorio, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7

  • La Junta vs. Pueblo County at Runyon Field-DiIorio, at noon on Sept. 8

  • Discovery Canyon vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, at 4 p.m. on Sept. 8

  • Cheyenne Mountain vs. Pueblo County at Runyon Field-DiIorio, at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 8

  • Classical Academy vs. Pueblo Centennial at Runyon Field, at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 9

Tons of action on the softball field this week as Centennial visits West on Tuesday, Central faces off against County, and South pays a visit to East. On Thursday, Florence comes to town against the Scorpions, Centennial will take on South and West will face off against County. On Friday there is a doubleheader for the Hornets, as La Junta visits County, Discovery Canyon takes on West, and Cheyenne Mountain faces County. Finally, on Saturday, Classical Academy will take on Centennial.

Boys Soccer

  • Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo Central at Dutch Clark Stadium, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 5

Some good matchups on the pitch this week as S-CL leading Centennial faces off against Central on Tuesday followed by West visiting South and East facing off against County. Then on Saturday, Widefield visits Pueblo East and Discovery Canyon takes on Centennial at Dutch Clark Stadium.
