Pueblo's Games of the Week to watch for the week of Dec. 4-9

As the nights come rolling in earlier and earlier, it signals a change in weather and the seasons.

Now that the winter season is upon us, winter sports have begun again, and with comes our first week of a full slate of games to watch from some of Pueblo’s best young prep athletes.

This week's games of the week to watch feature girls swimming to boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and hockey.

Each week the Chieftain will bring you the must-watch games from all of Pueblo’s home teams throughout the week. Here are this week's games to watch:

Girls Swim & Dive

• Widefield vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo County High School, 5 p.m., Dec. 4

• Pueblo Centennial vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 5 p.m., Dec. 5

• Widefield vs. Woodland Park vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, 5 p.m., Dec. 8

Girls swim and dive kick off at home this week with three different meets to choose from. County will be hosting Widefield on Monday, while on Tuesday an inner city battle takes place as Centennial and South take to the pool. Then on Friday, a Tri-meet will take place as Central hosts Widefield and Woodland Park.

Girls Basketball

• Fowler vs. Swallows Charter Academy at Swallows Charter Academy, 4 p.m., Dec. 5

• Florence vs. Pueblo Centennial at Pueblo Centennial High School, 6 p.m., Dec. 5

• Pueblo Central vs. Cheyenne Mountain at Pueblo County High School, 5 p.m., Dec. 7

• Lewis-Palmer vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo County High School, 8 p.m., Dec. 7

• Cheyenne Mountain vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo County High School, 6:30 p.m., Dec. 8

• Rocky Ford vs. Pueblo Centennial at Pueblo Centennial High School, 12:30 p.m., Dec. 9

• Discovery Canyon vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo County High School, 1 p.m., Dec. 9

Lots of action this week in girls basketball as the Spartans play host to Fowler on Tuesday and the Bulldogs host Florence on the same night. Then on Thursday, the Wildcats will face off against Cheyenne Mountain in a home/away game of sorts as they play at Pueblo County High School for the Hornet Invitational. County will host Lewis-Palmer later that night. Then on Friday County will host Cheyenne Mountain. Saturday has two more games in action as Rocky Ford visits the Bulldogs and Discovery Canyon heads to Hornets' Nest to face off against Pueblo County.

Boys Basketball

• Fowler vs. Swallows Charter Academy at Swallows Charter Academy, 6:30 p.m., Dec. 5

• La Junta vs. Rye at Rye High School, 6 p.m., Dec. 5

• Mesa Ridge vs. Pueblo East at Pueblo East High School, 7 p.m., Dec. 5

• Florence vs. Pueblo Centennial at Pueblo Centennial High School, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 5

• Widefield vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 7

• The Vanguard vs. Pueblo Centennial at Pueblo Centennial High School, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 7

• Palmer vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 8

• Mesa Ridge vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 1 p.m., Dec. 9

• Rocky Ford vs. Pueblo Centennial at Pueblo Centennial High School, 2 p.m., Dec. 9

Boys basketball kicks off this week with a full slate of games. Fowler visits the Spartans on Tuesday, and the Tigers will take a trip to Rye to face off against the Thunderbolts the same night. Later in the evening, Pueblo East hosts Mesa Ridge and Florence will face off against the Bulldogs. Thursday brings Widefield to town to face Pueblo South at home, while The Vanguard visits Centennial for a matchup with the Bulldogs. Palmer visits Pueblo Central on Friday night. Mesa Ridge then faces Pueblo South on Saturday at Colts Gymnasium and Rocky Fordy will take on Centennial at home on Saturday afternoon.

Boys Wrestling

• Widefield vs. Pueblo West at Pueblo West High School, 5:30 p.m., Dec. 6

• La Junta vs. Pueblo Central at Pueblo Central, 6:30 p.m., Dec. 6

• Dolores Huerta Prep vs. Pueblo South at Pueblo South High School, 6:30 p.m., Dec. 6

• Brother Rice vs. Pueblo East at Pueblo East High School, 5 p.m., Dec. 8

• Pueblo South vs. Pueblo West vs. Pueblo East at Pueblo East High School, 8 a.m., Dec. 9

Early season wrestling action takes place as Widefield and Pueblo West have a dual on Wednesday and La Junta visits Pueblo Central the same night. Later in the evening, an inner city dual between Dolores Huerta Prep and Pueblo South. On Friday Pueblo East will host Brother Rice then on Saturday, the East Invitational kicks off with Pueblo South and Pueblo West set to take on Pueblo East.

Ice Hockey

• Woodland Park vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 6

• Crested Butte Secondary vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena, 4 p.m., Dec. 8

• Cheyenne Mountain vs. Pueblo County at Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena, 2:30 p.m., Dec. 9

The Pueblo County Co-op Hockey team kicks off its home schedule this week with three games on the docket. Wednesday, County hosts Woodland Park, Friday Crested Butte Secondary comes to town, and then on Saturday Cheyenne Mountain comes to town for a matchup with the Hornets.
