GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Zeiberts lead Rochester to team title

Rochester sophomore Ashley Zeibert edged out South County sophomore Madigan Burger for first place at the Lee Hahlberg/Lanphier Invite at Lincoln Park on Saturday.

Zeibert won in 19 minutes, 52 seconds while Burger was second in 19:59. Ashley’s older sister, Brooke Zeibert, took seventh place in 20:29 and the Rockets won the team title ahead of Quincy and Monticello.

Taylorville’s Ella Goodman was eighth in 20:31.

Lincoln’s Heitzig wins Detweiller race

PEORIA — Lincoln senior Becca Heitig picked up first place in the Class 2A race of the First to the Finish Invitational at Detweiller Park.

Heitzig won in 17:01.20.

Chatham Glenwood freshman Ali Londrigan led the Titans to the team title with a ninth-place individual finish. She clocked a time of 18:04.50. Sophomore Ashlyn Chopra was 16th in 18:25.30 while freshman Brenna Slowman was 19th in 18:32.80.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Morgan earns gold at Lanphier Invite

Taylorville senior Owen Morgan coasted to first place at the Lee Hahlberg/Lanphier Invite at Lincoln Park.

He ran 15 minutes, 53 seconds and finished ahead of Decatur Eisenhower/MacArthur’s Joey McGinn’s 16:04. Normal Community won the team title ahead of Mahomet-Seymour and Mundelein. Taylorville was fifth.

BOYS SOCCER

Crumrine, Riverton blow past Meridian

RIVERTON — Isaac Crumrine scored a pair of goals and delivered three assists as Riverton shut out winless Macon Meridian 6-0 in a nonconference boys soccer game on Saturday.

Riverton (2-5) went ahead 2-0 at the half on scores by Kol Duncan and Bryce Kukla. Crumrine then scored twice and Julian Rice and James Stevens each added additional goals in the second half.

Jackson Nibbe, who also had an assist in goal, registered four saves for Riverton.

VOLLEYBALL

Pana takes third at Shelbyville

SHELBYVILLE — Pana won three out of five matches and finished in third place at the Shelbyville Invitational volleyball tournament.

The Panthers defeated Shelbyville’s junior varsity (25-4, 27-25) and then downed Marshall (25-10, 25-14) in pool play matches. Pana lost to Edwards County 26-24, 25-21 in its third match, and fell to Shelbyville 25-23, 25-21 in the tournament round.

Pana ended the tournament with a 25-19, 25-20 victory over Charleston in the third-place match. Alexis Coleman led Pana in the tournament with 25 kills and Izzy Reed had 48 assists. Kennedy Bowker finished with eight aces and Ayda Coleman collected 51 digs.

GIRLS GOLF

Williamsville takes Viper Invite

PALMYRA — Williamsville had four golfers finish in the top six and the Bullets won the seven-team Lady Viper Invite at Terry Park Golf Course.

Zoey Beard shot an 83 and placed second individually for Williamsville, which ended with a team score of 365. Teammates Naomi Roberts, Chelsea Clack and Kaedyn Locke finished third, fourth and sixth, respectively.

Anna Jones placed ninth and Raymond Lincolnwood totaled 415 for second place. North Mac’s Taylor Keirs was medalist with a 9-over-par 79. The No. 1 team for Auburn (420) finished third and North Mac (425) was fourth in the team standings.

BOYS GOLF

Titans win Mattoon Invite

MATTOON — Cameron Appenzeller shot a 2-under-par 142 total after two rounds and claimed third place individually at the Mattoon Craig Dixon Invitational at Mattoon Country Club.

Teammate Drew Downen finished 5-over to come in 10th place and the Titans won first place as a team with 605 strokes.

VOLLEYBALL

Plains rolls to 12-3

PLEASANT PLAINS — Pleasant Plains put together a balanced team attack to defeat Jacksonville in straight sets 25-12, 25-8 in a nonconference volleyball match on Thursday.

Zoe Hiltabrand, Sydney McAfee and Willow Milkint finished with four kills apiece and McAfee led Plains with seven digs. Hiltabrand and Milkint recorded two blocks each and Claire Long delivered 13 assists.

Hiltabrand and Lynch served three aces each and Plains improved to 12-3.

Becker produces for Senators

TROY — Outside hitter Ruth Becker displayed her offensive and defensive prowess to lead Springfield High past Troy Triad 25-14, 25-15 in a nonconference match.

Becker finished with six kills and 14 digs. Teammate Lila Ambrose showed support with six kills and four blocks as the Senators moved to 7-3 on the season.

Madison Clark totaled 14 assists and Alix Bibb and Ambrose served up two aces.

Pair leads Nokomis to eighth win

NOKOMIS — Addison Glenn and Mackenzie Mehochko had six kills apiece and Nokomis upped its record to 8-2-1 with a 25-12, 25-17 home victory over Macon Meridian.

Glenn led the team with three blocks and Mehochko helped on the defensive end with 10 digs. Kinley Stolte recorded team-highs in assists (12) and service aces (2).

IN OTHER NEWS: GRACE DAVIS rung up 11 kills and six digs to lead host Mount Pulaski past Greenview 25-21, 25-18 in a nonconference match. ELLA BOBELL compiled 21 assists and ALYSON MURPHY added five kills and six digs for Mount Pulaski (2-4), which snapped a four-match losing streak. … KENNEDY BOWKER dialed up 12 assists and outside hitter KYLIE EVRLEY put down six kills to lead Pana to a 25-20, 25-12 home win over Greenville. Pana improved to 7-3. … Litchfield beat Gillespie 25-18, 16-25, 25-18 in a South Central Conference match at Gillespie.

BOYS SOCCER

Rochester blanks Lincoln

ROCHESTER — Four different players scored for Rochester and the Rockets defeated Lincoln 4-0 in a Central State Eight Conference boys soccer match.

Rochester (7-3 overall, 4-0 in the CS8) jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half on goals by Landon Kutscher and Tucker Spraetz. Brenden McArdle and Major Gibson each put in a goal for the Rockets in the second half.

Lach Sullivan, McArdle, Kutscher and Gibson all had an assist.

Carrell, Brudnak pace Senators

JACKSONVILLE — Evan Carrell scored twice and goalie Joe Brudnak made five saves as Springfield High posted a 3-0 shutout over Jacksonville in Central State Eight Conference play.

Vince Pratt also scored for Springfield (7-1 overall, 1-1 in the CS8). Gavin Oyler had two assists and Byron McNeil had one assist in the victory.

Glenwood blanks SHG

Bright Reed dialed up two goals while Miles Calderon added another in a 3-0 Central State Eight Conference win over host Sacred Heart-Griffin.

The Titans improved to 3-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Lutheran streaks past Riverton

Lutheran scored four unanswered goals and picked up a 5-2 victory over Riverton in a nonconference game at Lutheran.

Riverton (1-5) led 1-0 at the 18-minute mark when it scored on a Lutheran own goal. Lutheran (2-2) responded one minute later when Jacob Carter assisted on a goal by Noah Rodenburg. Carter Matteson then scored twice, and the Crusaders went into the half with a 3-1 advantage.

Miles Kaufmann added a goal to start the second half and Matteson completed a hat trick to end the scoring. Goalie Tristen Perry finished with four saves in the win.

Isaac Crumrine had Riverton’s second goal.

BOYS GOLF

Lincolnwood ekes out win

CARLINVILLE — Bryce Cowdrey and Zeke Castleberry both shot an even-par 36 and Raymond Lincolnwood won by three strokes in a five-team boys golf meet at Carlinville Country Club.

Lincolnwood defeated second-place finisher Carlinville 152-155. Lance Weitekamp’s 39 helped the Lancers seal the victory.

Carlinville’s Tate Duckels was medalist after shooting a 1-under 35. Colin Pope had a 37 for the Cavaliers.

Gillespie was third with 193, followed by Piasa Southwestern (194) and Taylorville (201).

GIRLS GOLF

Knauer, Scheffler fuel SHS

Kendall Knauer galvanized Springfield High to a dual team victory over Williamsville with a 3-over-par 39 at Lincoln Greens Golf Course.

Emma Scheffler (41), Meher Gorg (42) and Madelyn Beck (46) also contributed to the win.

Noami Roberts led the Bullets with a 40 while Zoey Beard had a 45.

GIRLS TENNIS

Trio secures SHG win

QUINCY — Caroline Sheehan, Sydney Gathard and Lily White each won two matches and lifted Sacred Heart-Griffin to a 6-3 victory over Quincy Notre Dame in a girls dual tennis match at Reservoir Park.

Sheehan won her No. 1 singles match and Gathard and White were victorious at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

Sheehan teamed with MK Christie and registered a win at No. 1 doubles, and Gathard paired with Maggie Klinc for a victory at No. 2. White and Brooklyn Budd won their No. 3 doubles match.
