Prep spotlight: Buffalo Tri-City softball claims 13th straight MSM title

Here are the high school softball and girls soccer results around the Springfield area from Friday and Saturday:

Saturday's results

BUFFALO TRI-CITY 10, NOKOMIS 3: At Buffalo, Lily Woodworth struck out 11 and the Tornadoes secured the outright MSM Conference title with the win.

It was the program’s 13th straight conference championship. Woodworth gave up three runs on seven hits and one walk. She also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Audrey Cooper had two hits and three runs in the leadoff spot. Savannah Sladek blasted a two-run home run in the third inning. Reaghan Jonas hit a solo shot in the second for Nokomis.

BUFFALO TRI-CITY 14, NOKOMIS 2 (5 innings): At Buffalo, Kamryn Sturdy drove in four runs and Audrey Cooper homered as the Tornadoes swept the doubleheader.

Cooper drew three walks after she hit a three-run home run in the top of the first to give the Tornadoes (25-5, 8-0 MSM) an 8-0 lead. She scored four times in the game.

Sturdy went 2-for-3 and scored twice to go with her RBIs. Cooper also got the win in the circle. She allowed two runs — none earned — on four hits and two walks.

Elizabeth Hill doubled and had an RBI for Nokomis.

HAVANA 6, BEARDSTOWN 5: At Havana, Jaydn Stone homered and finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and the Ducks withstood Beardstown’s comeback effort.

Havana jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning before the Tigers rallied with five runs over the next two frames. Kaydi Miller scored the ensuing two runs for the Ducks. She reached on an error to begin the seventh before scoring on another error on a Libbie Johnson flyball.

Hannah Hodgson allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts and got the win in a complete game.

Bella Palmer led Beardstown with two hits, two RBIs and a run, including a triple.

CARROLLTON 3, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 2: At Carrollton, Lauren Flowers cranked out a solo home run and the Hawks scored three runs in the first inning to improve to 30-2 overall.

Carrollton’s Hannah Uhles and Megan Camden each had RBI singles in the frame after SHG took a 1-0 lead.

Uhles totaled 11 strikeouts in a complete game. She gave up two unearned runs on four hits and one walk.

Libby Kulek, who scored the game’s first run following a Kenzie Wieland single, had two hits and two runs for the Cyclones. Wieland took the loss in six innings with seven strikeouts.

PLEASANT HILL 1, CARLINVILLE 0 (11 innings): At Carlinville, McKinley Lowe carried the Wolves to a nonconference win with 10 strikeouts and no runs allowed in a complete game.

She yielded eight hits and one walk to edge out Carlinville’s Hallie Gibson in a pitchers’ duel. Gibson gave up one unearned run, three hits and three walks with 12 strikeouts.

Ava Wombles scored the winning run on an error in the top of the 11th.  Chloe Pope and Isabella Tiburzi each had two hits for the Cavaliers.

CHARLESTON 4, TAYLORVILLE 3: At Taylorville, Grace Rogers went 2-for-3 in the Tornadoes’ Apollo Conference loss. Peyton DeMichael and Livia Havera each had RBIs for the Tornadoes.

CHARLESTON 9, TAYLORVILLE 1: At Taylorville, Peyton DeMichael had two hits to lead the Tornadoes in an Apollo Conference doubleheader loss.

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 5, QUINCY 0: At Quincy, Mia Volpert hit a pair of solo home runs to help the Senators top the Blue Devils in a nonconference meeting. Rachel Becker also had two hits and two RBIs for SHS.

Volpert struck out 12 in a complete-game shutout. She allowed three hits and no walks.

QUINCY 19, SPRINGFIELD HIGH 4 (4 innings): At Quincy, Springfield's Mia Volpert homered again and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Blue Devils split a nonconference doubleheader.

Kendall Knauer and Erin Stoops had the other two hits for the Senators.

Friday’s results

SOFTBALL

WILLIAMSVILLE 7, CHATHAM GLENWOOD 4: At Chatham, Izzy Nowack ripped the go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning for her only hit of the game and the Bullets rallied to a nonconference victory.

It was Nowack’s ninth dinger of the season.

Lucy Nell and Elle Smithers added insurance runs with RBI singles. Nell, Nicole Sinks and Norah Dodsworth each finished with two hits and the Bullets improved to 15-13 overall.

Reese Larson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run. Hope Keenan chalked up the win in four innings. She gave up just two hits with no walks or runs and one strikeout.

Glenwood’s Kate Feld homered in the second inning. Ryleigh Kiel and Mollie Cascio each had a hit and run. Cassie Feld had a hit and RBI. The Titans fell to 23-5 overall.

PLEASANT PLAINS 2, JACKSONVILLE 0: At Jacksonville, Faith Nestler struck out 15 batters, walked none and threw a no-hitter to lead Plains to a nonconference triumph.

Plains scored a run each in the first and third innings. Nestler helped her own cause when she drove in Delaney Murphy with a single in the first.

Murphy scored the Cardinals’ second run on a single by Delaina Manuel in the third. Manuel finished 2-for-3.

QUINCY 6, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 5: At SHG, Kenzie Wieland homered twice and finished with three RBIs in the nonconference loss. McKenna Norris also homered in the sixth inning for the Cyclones.

Norris and Felicity Keller each finished with three hits. Wieland took the loss despite 13 strikeouts in a complete game. She gave up five earned runs on five hits and five walks.

GILLESPIE 9, HARDIN CALHOUN 3: At Hardin, Gillespie plated five runs in the top of the third inning and finished with 11 hits in a nonconference game.

A bases-loaded walk and an RBI sacrifice fly gave Gillespie a 2-1 advantage. Laci Schuckenbrock (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Delaney Taylor (2-for-4) then lined singles for two more runs and Paxton Reid (2-for-3) scored on a passed ball in the Miners’ five-run third.

Winning pitcher Emma Gipson went the distance and allowed four hits and two earned runs. She struck out six, walked two and delivered a two-run home run in the seventh.

Leadoff hitter Ava Parish went 2-for-5 with a run for Gillespie.

AUBURN 7, TAYLORVILLE 4: At Taylorville, Auburn erased a three-run deficit with three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to record a nonconference win.

Trailing 4-1, Addison Jones (2-for-5, two runs) singled in a run and Meena Taylor (2-for-4, three RBIs) added a two-run double as Auburn tied the game at four apiece in the fourth.

Taylor Patterson, who went 3-for-4, had a two-run single, and Jones scored on a passed ball as the Trojans took the lead in the fifth.

Winning pitcher Sydney Rabideau threw a complete game, striking out five and walking none. She allowed seven hits and three earned runs.

Kyleigh Heimsness helped Taylorville take its 4-1 lead in the third with a two-run double. Reece Brockelsby went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the Tornadoes.   

LINCOLN 4, CHAMPAIGN CENTRAL 2: At Lincoln, Grey Gilbert laced an RBI triple and Regan Kutz singled in a run in Lincoln’s two-run third inning en route to a nonconference win.

Winning pitcher Madison Wurth and Kutz combined on a two-hitter. Wurth threw five innings, fanning seven and walking none, while allowing one hit and one earned run. Kutz struck out three, walked none and gave up one hit and one run in two innings.

BUFFALO TRI-CITY 4, RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 1: At Raymond, Lily Woodworth compiled 14 strikeouts and threw a four-hitter as the Tornadoes clinched at least a share of the MSM Conference title.

Woodworth didn’t yield a walk. Kamryn Sturdy and Lexi Patton both had RBIs for Tri-City. Taryn Clarke finished 2-for-3 with a run for Lincolnwood.

HILLSBORO 9, LITCHFIELD 0: At Litchfield, Hillsboro scored three runs in three different innings and winning pitcher Anika Camp completed the shutout in the circle.

Sophia Blankenship went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and Ella Greenwood doubled, tripled and finished 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

Camp ended 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored at the plate. She went the distance, giving up five hits while striking out seven and walking two.

BEARDSTOWN 4, HAMILTON WEST HANCOCK 3: At Beardstown, the Tigers scored three runs in the third inning and Shelby Goodrich threw a complete game.

Goodrich yielded three hits and one earned run with six strikeouts and two walks. Autumn Bowman went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI for Beardstown. Goodrich, Bella Palmer and Lauren Coats each scored a run in the win.  

CARLINVILLE 6, PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 5 (8 innings): At Piasa, Hallie Gibson had an RBI groundout in the top of the eighth inning to win in extras.

Carlinville took a 5-3 lead on an inside-the-park home run and a solo homer by Addison Ruyle in the seventh. Southwestern tied the game in the bottom half with two runs.

Isabella Tiburzi went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for the Cavaliers. Braley Wiser and Olivia Kunz had two hits each and one RBI apiece.

GIRLS SOCCER

NO. 1 SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 8, NO. 6 RIVERTON/BUFFALO TRI-CITY 0: At the Class 1A SHG Regional, Isabella Perryman scored twice and the Cyclones rolled to the regional final.

Caroline Sheehan assisted the opening goal to Emma Johnson before Perryman delivered her first goal on a Caroline Lambert assist. Sheehan followed with a goal, assisted by Norah Long, who also scored on a Samantha Perryman assist and finished with three assists.

Samantha Perryman and Olivia Paul had the other goals for the Cyclones, who host Monday’s winner between No. 4 North Mac and No. 5 Pana on Tuesday.

NO. 3 AUBURN 9, NO. 7 LUTHERAN 0: At the Class 1A Quincy Notre Dame Regional, Callie Gill totaled three goals and three assists and the Trojans will meet No. 2 host QND on Tuesday for the regional crown.

Karlissa Clark and and Emme Divjak each had two goals.
