Prep Spotlight: Keenan aces lift Williamsville’s late rally to sink Pleasant Plains

Here are the high school sports results from around Springfield for Monday through Wednesday.

VOLLEYBALL

Williamsville’s late rally sinks Pleasant Plains

PLEASANT PLAINS — A couple of Hope Keenan aces spurred a late comeback and Williamsville nipped Pleasant Plains 16-25, 25-20, 27-25 in an entertaining Sangamo Conference volleyball match on Tuesday.

The Bullets trailed 16-10 in the third set and won on a Paige Wendling ace. Keenan, a senior libero, finished with three aces, along with 14 digs and three assists.

Junior outside hitter Britni Walters led Williamsville (14-6 overall, 4-0 Sangamo) with 18 kills and 17 digs while younger sister Brianna had 10 kills and 13 digs. Junior setter Riley Holliday supplied 28 assists and 11 digs. Ayla Howard added two kills and eight digs.

Williamsville remains tied atop the Sangamo standings with Petersburg PORTA.

Plains’ Sydney McAfee produced eight kills, 14 digs, three blocks and two aces. Adi Fraase contributed 10 assists and 10 digs while Paige Weatherford had 11 digs.

Zoe Hiltabrand had five kills for the Cardinals (18-5 overall, 2-2 Sangamo), who won the Sangamo Conference tournament on Monday.

Mehochko’s performance not enough in MSM loss

RAYMOND — Freshman Mackenzie Mehochko put together an all-around effort, but Nokomis lost to Raymond Lincolnwood 15-25, 25-18, 25-22 in a first-place battle of an MSM Conference match.

Mehochko compiled 16 kills, 24 digs and three aces in the loss that dropped Nokomis to 17-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Addison Glenn had 13 kills and tied teammate Reaghan Jonas with five blocks, while Kinley Stolte provided Nokomis with 25 assists.

Lincolnwood took sole possession of first place in the MSM and improved to 18-2 and 5-0.

Murphy helps Mount Pulaski post win

MOUNT PULASKI — Alyson Murphy delivered seven kills and 13 digs and Mount Pulaski defeated Lutheran 25-20, 25-22 in a nonconference match.

Ella Bobell distributed 17 assists and Elayna Martin added six kills for Mount Pulaski. Kamrie Charron collected 12 digs in the win.

Rochester’s Beatty, Gegen top SHG

ROCHESTER — Charlotte Beatty dished up 22 assists and two aces in Rochester’s 25-19, 25-22 Central State Eight Conference win over Sacred Heart-Griffin at the Rochester Athletic Complex.

Peyton Zeidler, Sydney Dulin and Paige Carmody also had two aces apiece. Zeidler led the Rockets (12-9 overall, 5-2 CS8) offensively with eight kills while Ellie Gegen contributed six kills and seven digs. Dulin anchored the back row with 10 digs.

Grace Jameson added five kills while Becca Ryan supplied seven digs.

Josie Mack delivered seven kills and four digs for SHG (9-8, 5-3 CS8) while Macie Rolf had four kills and seven digs. Ava Hillyer had 19 assists.

Glenwood routs MacArthur

CHATHAM — Reagan Littrell pulled off six aces in Chatham Glenwood’s 25-13, 25-14 Central State Eight Conference win over Decatur MacArthur.

Mo Wiezorek produced 13 assists and four kills. Alexis Neumann and Natalie Alexander had nine and five kills, respectively. Neumann also had four digs for the Titans, who improved to 13-6 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Katelynn McLemore and Kylee Jackson each had seven digs for the Generals. Briyanna McDermith had three kills and one ace.

IN OTHER NEWS: KAMI SHEEDY accumulated six kills and 12 digs and KAYLEE COWHICK compiled 15 assists, but New Berlin fell to Stanford Olympia 25-17, 25-23 in a Sangamo Conference match at Stanford. … LAUREN BERTAGNOLLI (16), LACI SCHUCKENBROCK (14) and AMARI VICKERY (13) combined for 43 digs to lead Gillespie to a 25-12, 13-25, 25-21 win over host East Alton Wood River. Vickery led Gillespie with six kills. … Carrollton cruised to a 25-10, 25-10 home victory over Jacksonville Routt in a Western Illinois Valley Conference match. … RUTH BECKER totaled six kills and 11 digs in Springfield High’s 25-9, 25-10 CS8 victory over Decatur Eisenhower. EVA HAMANN had five kills and nine assists while LILA AMBROSE achieved four blocks and two aces.

GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING

Turk lifts Glenwood in triangular

Junior Erin Turk was victorious in three events and Chatham Glenwood defeated Sacred Heart-Griffin and Jacksonville in a triangular girls swimming and diving meet at Eisenhower Pool.

Turk won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes 19.71 seconds) and swam the anchor leg on Glenwood’s winning 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.

The Titans finished with 149 points, and SHG was second with 112. Jacksonville came in with 36 points.

Senior Kaleigh Bobb (500 freestyle), juniors Ashleigh Maender (200 freestyle) and Maja Dey (50 freestyle) and sophomore Madison Yom (100 butterfly) all finished first in their respective events for Glenwood, which also won the 200 medley relay.

SHG sophomore Mac Gibbs had two individual wins with triumphs in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Junior Olivia Paul took first in 1-meter diving and sophomore Hope Speiser touched first in the 100 breaststroke for the Cyclones.

BOYS SOCCER

Crumrine, Hawknadoes roll Hilltoppers

ROCHESTER — Isaac Crumrine netted three goals and dished out two assists as host Riverton defeated Mount Pulaski 8-1.

Julian Rice added two goals and Chase Garlin and Kol Duncan both provided a goal and an assist each for Riverton. The Hawknadoes led 5-0 at intermission, scoring their goals in the first 22 minutes.

VOLLEYBALL

Four Cardinals made all-tournament team as Plains claims trophy

PLEASANT PLAINS — Four players from Pleasant Plains were named to the Sangamon County Volleyball Tournament’s 12-player all-tourney team after the Cardinals captured the championship with a 25-20, 25-22 win over Athens in the championship match on Monday.

Sydney McAfee, Claire Long, Adi Fraase and Paige Weatherford were all voted to the 12-player team by the tournament coaches.

Runner-up Athens had two players named to the team: Addie Stadsholt and Karsyn Jacoby.

Williamsville and Auburn also had two players apiece named: Britni Walters and Riley Holliday for the third-place Bullets along with Reese Megginson and Madi Neighbors for the consolation bracket runner-up Trojans.

Kami Sheedy of fourth-place New Berlin and Adison White of the consolation winners Riverton were also named to the all-tournament team.

Williamsville beat New Berlin 25-9, 25-20 for third place and Riverton defeated Auburn 25-15, 25-22 in the consolation match.

IN OTHER NEWS: JORDYN LOVELESS had eight kills in Carlinville's 32-30, 9-25, 25-20 loss to Alton Marquette. CHLOE POPE had 17 digs. ... ADDISON GLENN recorded 10 kills to lead Nokomis past Hillsboro 25-12, 28-26.

BOYS GOLF

Four Litchfield golfers finish in top four as Panthers win SCC

FILLMORE — Sam Schwab and A.J. Odle shot a 2-over-72 and a 73, respectively, to help Litchfield win the 10-team South Central Conference boys golf meet on Monday at Indian Springs Golf Course.

Tug Schwab finished with a 76 while Tucker Maguire carded a 78 as the Purple Panthers had four of the top-eight individual finishers.

Litchfield beat Vandalia 299-324 while Staunton (325) and Carlinville (328) finished just out of second place. Hillsboro was two shots behind Carlinville to finish fifth. North Mac beat Greenville 357-366 for sixth while Piasa Southwestern’s 386 beat Pana (390) and Gillespie (397) for eighth.

Vandalia’s Connor McCall earned medalist honors with an even-par 70.

Carlinville’s Tate Duckels and Staunton’s Broc Best each shot a 77.

Kinney vaults PORTA to triangular win

PETERSBURG — Brady Kinney shot a 3-over-par 39 to lead Petersburg PORTA to a triangular win at Shambolee Golf Course on Monday.

Kinney had birdies on holes Nos. 4 and 5. He beat teammates Brody Pettit and Trace Donnan by three strokes each for the medalist honors.

Griffin McClure added a 46 as PORTA finished with a team score of 169 to beat Raymond Lincolnwood by eight shots. Auburn was third with a 199 team score.

Bryce Cowdrey and Brady Schmedeke led the runner-up Lancers with a pair of 43s. Auburn’s Asher Root led the Trojans with a 46.

GIRLS GOLF

Matli helps Lancers win triangular

AUBURN — Jenna Matli shot a 12-over-par 48 to help Raymond Lincolnwood edge host Auburn in a three-team golf match at Edgewood Golf Club on Monday.

Kennady Klinger added a 50 for the Lancers while Carly Armentrout shot a 51. Lincolnwood topped Auburn 201-207.

Auburn’s Mailee Schoen shot a 9-over 45 to earn medalist honors. She was followed by Kaylee Stead’s 50.

South County finished third with a 270.

Keirs leads North Mac to SCC title

FILLMORE — North Mac’s Taylor Keirs shot a 13-over-par 83 to earn medalist honors and lead North Mac to a win in the five-team South Central Conference girls golf meet at Indian Springs Golf Course on Monday.

Karleigh Prose shot a 95 to earn third place among individuals.

North Mac beat Vandalia 377-430 while Litchfield took third with a 451-457 edge over Pana. Staunton was fifth with a 463.

BOYS SOCCER

Norwood leads Cavs to win

CARLINVILLE — Gavin Norwood scored three goals and had an assist as Carlinville beat Jerseyville 5-2 in a nonconference match on Monday.

Norwood took seven shots to get the hat trick as Carlinville improved to 7-5-1.

Teammate Will Meyer had a goal and an assist for the Cavaliers.

Carlinville led 2-1 at halftime and took a 3-1 lead on a deep shot by Norwood before Jerseyville pulled within 3-2. Norwood and Meyer put the game away for Carlinville with two goals in 24 seconds.

Woods, Bodine score pair as Bullets prevail

RIVERTON —Sawyer Woods and Reid Bodine each had two first-half goals as Williamsville defeated Riverton 6-0 on Monday.

Woods’ goal off a free kick gave the Bullets a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute before Bodine made it 2-0 off an assist from Drew Mirabile. Bodine had consecutive goals four minutes later off a Matt Lessen assist. Woods then put away an assist from Bryson Trickey in the 30th minute as Williamsville took a 4-0 lead.

Mirabile had the Bullets’ final goal of the first half before Daniel Stern scored in the 59th minute. Williamsville improved to 11-3-2 while Riverton fell to 3-12.
