Norwayne 3, Waynedale 1
A Norwayne squad that is on the mend, battled a Waynedale team that came in looking to score that marquee win. In the end, it was the Bobcats who prevailed with a pair of goals in the second half to break a 1-1 tie.
"Both teams played really well and Nayeli (Cruz) and Skye (Morris) both stood out to me on the attack and on defense," said Norwayne coach Jason Zimmerly. "Our girls took a step forward in their growth in the second half and were more poised and started playing with more awareness.
"The seniors really stood up in the second half and led, which changed the entire game. Shelby was limited on her time as she's working her way back from injury but made the most of it."
Despite dealing with injury, Shelby Vaughn scored all three goals for Norwayne and goalkeeper Sydney Emler was stingy with six saves.
The Golden Bears lone goal came from Morris and McKenna Baney totaled one save.
