Prep Roundup: St. Francis takes down Leland in battle of top-10 volleyball teams; Carissa Musta reaches 1000 kills, becomes Cadillac's all-time leader in blocks

Sep. 21—TRAVERSE CITY — In a battle of top-10 teams, Traverse City St. Francis came out as victor against Leland in varsity volleyball action Thursday.

The Division 3 No. 6 Gladiators toppled the Division 4 No. 4 Comets despite losing the first set in a 17-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-15 final score.

Contributing to the big win for St. Francis were Reese Jones (6 aces, 25 assists, 5 digs), Reese Muma (8 kills, 2 blocks), Quinn Yenshaw (3 aces, 12 digs, 13 kills), Claire Hurley (9 kills), Tessah Konas (22 assists, 6 digs), Harper Nausadis (5 kills, 1 block), Avery Nance (8 digs, 2 aces), Garnet Mullet (15 digs, 13 kills) and Landry Fouch (2 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks).

St. Francis is now 14-5-1 overall with a 3-0 record in the Lake Michigan Conference. They head to Grayling for LMC action on Wednesday.

For the Comets, Fiona Moord had 15 kills with a dozen digs and two assists. Abby Hicks led in assists with 29 and had six digs. Kally Sluiter (8 digs, 2 aces), Kelsey Allen (9 kills, 3 digs, 3 assists), Mallory Lowe (11 digs), Olive Ryder 2 kills, 1 ace, 13 digs) and Shelby Plamondon (5 kills, 1 ace) also contributed for Leland in the loss.

The Comets travel to Suttons Bay for Northwest Conference play on Tuesday.
