PREP ROUNDUP: Newton falls to Fairfield; Stewart, Moon place at Cumberland Skull and Cross Bone Invitational

Dec. 19—FAIRFIELD — The Newton Eagles fell to Fairfield, 60-51, on Saturday at Fairfield High School.

Caden Nichols led Newton (7-3) with 18 points.

Dylan Gier had 14 points. Jacob Weber had nine. Parker Wolf had six and Gus Bierman and Max Meinhart each had two.

Linton-Stockton (Ind.) 71, Louisville (North Clay) 41

The North Clay Cardinals fell to Linton-Stockton, out of Indiana, 71-41, in the ninth-place game of the Wayne City Conrad Allen Holiday Tournament.

Cody Zimdars led North Clay (3-7) with 14 points.

Carder Walden and Ethan Kuenstler each had nine. Jesse Weidner had three and Lane Wolfe, Lucas Griffy and Gavin Hosselton each had two.

Neoga 46, Arcola 45

The Neoga Indians defeated Arcola, 46-45, on Friday at Neoga High School.

Landon Titus led Neoga (3-6) with 12 points.

James Bullock had nine points. Trey Sheehan had eight. Braydon Letterle had six. Carter Young had five. Gavin Ray had four and Luke Keller had two.

Farina (South Central) 48, Martinsville 33

The South Central Cougars defeated Martinsville, 48-33, on Friday at Martinsville High School.

Max Magnus led South Central (6-3) with 15 points.

Westin Neilson had 11 points. Seth Bergmann had nine. Callaway Smith had seven. Kage Hiestand had five and Jacob Smith had one.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Louisville (North Clay) 48, Bridgeport (Red Hill) 31

The North Clay Cardinals defeated Bridgeport (Red Hill), 48-31, on Thursday at North Clay High School.

Miah Ballard led North Clay (5-7) with 15 points.

Leah Wetherholt had 14 points. Matia Price had eight. Sydney Kincaid had five. Alexis VanDyke had four and Ava Fleener had two.

Effingham at Toledo (Cumberland) Skull and Cross Bone Invitational

The Effingham Flaming Hearts competed at the Cumberland Skull and Cross Bone Invitational over the weekend.

At 120 pounds, Mason Bushue lost both of his matches. He fell to Harrisburg's Rocko Neal by pinfall in one minute and 19 seconds and Olney Richland County's Kaeden Davis by pinfall in 42 seconds.

At 126 pounds, Kaiden Stewart went 4-2. He defeated Olney Richland County's Chase Ackman by pinfall in three minutes and 54 seconds, Oblong/Hutsonville-Palestine's Mason Correll by pinfall in 48 seconds, Monticello's Will Osborne by pinfall in three minutes and 56 seconds and Cumberland's Logan Aaron by pinfall in one minute and 31 seconds. He lost to Warrensburg-Latham's Kaden Roberts by pinfall in five minutes and 21 seconds and Robinson's Broady Kelly by pinfall in three minutes and two seconds.

At 138 pounds, Baker Moon went 4-2. He defeated Litchfield/Mt. Olive's Shay Wethoff by a 7-3 decision, Johnston City's Gabe Livley by pinfall in five minutes and nine seconds, Harrisburg's Kadyn Cummins by pinfall in five minutes and one second and Monticello's Drake Weeks by a 6-4 decision. He lost to Cumberland's Brayden Olmstead by an 18-5 decision and Fithian Oakwood/Catlin Salt Fork's Jack Alster by a 15-3 decision.

At 150 pounds, Saul Ellis went 1-2. He defeated Belleville Althoff Catholic's Alex Schallert by a 14-2 decision and lost to Shelbyville's Kaz Fox by pinfall in two minutes and 39 seconds and Monticello's Tristan Slade by a 14-4 decision.

At 157 pounds, Gage Emmerich went 0-2. He lost to Harrisburg's Brair Bulter by pinfall in 59 seconds and Fairfield's Nicholas Masterson by pinfall in 42 seconds.

Lastly, at 175 pounds, Clinton Metcalf went 1-2. He defeated Mt. Carmel's Braxton Brown by pinfall in 43 seconds and lost to Warrensburg-Latham's Carter Johnson by pinfall in one minute and four seconds and Johnston City's Randy Fuqua by pinfall in one minute and 29 seconds.
