PREP ROUNDUP: Hartselle softball breezes past Decatur

Mar. 8—With an 18-0 win over Decatur on Tuesday, the Hartselle softball team continues to roll in the early part of the 2024 season.

The Tigers are now 9-1 to start the year and first year head coach Anna Hall couldn't be more thrilled.

"I'm so excited, but it's really just a testament to the girls," Hall said. "They've been putting in the work to get here and this really has nothing to do with me."

Morgan Osborn had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Tigers against Decatur. Auburn signee Blayne Godfrey picked up the win, tossing a scoreless first inning in which she threw just eight pitches, seven of which were strikes.

The senior pitcher has been key to Hartselle's dominant start to the season with her sister, catcher and fellow Auburn commit Brityan Godfrey, saying she's throwing at a level she's never seen.

"She was hurt at the end of last year so she's been building back up," Brityan Godfrey said. "I think right now she's pitching the best I've ever seen."

Austin 14, James Clemens 2: Lyndi Perkins tripled and drove in four runs in a big win for Austin on Thursday.

Arden Breedlove had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for the Black Bears, while Kinsley Higdon added two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Claire Wright had three hits and one RBI.

Grace Lamb pitched all five innings for the win, allowing one earned run on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Decatur Heritage 16, Addison 4: Marissa Adams pitched a complete game as Decatur Heritage opened area play with a big win on Thursday, allowing three hits while striking out two.

Allie Tidwell went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs for the Eagles, while Ella Olive added three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs.

Hatton 11, Lauderdale County 7: Marlie Hood doubled and drove in three runs to lead Hatton on Thursday.

Anna Potter had two hits and two RBIs for the Hornets, while Kyli Smith and Jaycee Burleson added two hits and one RBI each. Zella Williamson pitched four innings of relief for the win, allowing one run with one strikeout.

Athens 11, Huntsville 10: Morgan Stiles homered, doubled twice and drove in six runs to lead Athens on Thursday.

Charlie Barnes had two hits and one RBI for the Golden Eagles and Lily Lowery pitched 1 1/3 innings for the win, allowing one run on one hit.

Priceville 9, East Lawrence 0: Wrozlie Barnett had two hits and two RBIs for Priceville on Thursday.

Kelsey Green homered and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs, while Bailey Smyth added a double and two RBIs. Maddie Black worked four innings in the circle for the win, allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Clements 12, Athens Bible School 2: Sarah Jo Moss had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for Clements on Thursday.

Lexie Henderson had two hits and three RBIs for the Colts and Peyten Burks had a hit and two RBIs. Burks pitched five innings for the win, striking out six.

Baseball

Decatur Heritage 14, East Lawrence 0: Bo Mitchell and Rafer Jones combined to toss a five-inning no-hitter in a big win for Decatur Heritage on Thursday.

Mitchell got the start and worked 2 2/3 innings, walking three with three strikeouts. Jones pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, striking out three.

Olsen Howard had two hits and three RBIs for Decatur Heritage, whiel Jones, Ford Sparkman and Paxton Turner added two hits and two RBIs each. Mitchell had a hit and two RBIs.

Athens 3, Grissom 2: Athens scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and pick up a win on Thursday.

Riley Miller had a double and two RBIs for the Golden Eagles, while Walker Fleming added two singles and one RBI. Charlie Cook picked up the win in relief.

Ardmore 11, Elkmont 7: Caiden Bailes had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs to lead Ardmore on Thursday.

Skyler Jean had four hits for the Tigers, including a solo home run, while Carter Smith added two hits and two RBIs. Layne Williams pitched six innings for the win, striking out one.

Corder Hobbs and Joey Richards had two RBIs each for Elkmont.

Danville 5, Clements 3: Kason Jeffries doubled, singled and drove in two runs for Danville on Thursday. Reece Cowart pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the win, walking two while striking out three.

Greyson Craig and Austin Craig had one RBI each for Clements.

Hatton 14, Lexington 7: Tasean Love had three hits and a pair of RBIs for Hatton on Thursday.

Parker Huff drove in three runs for the Hornets and Taegen Burleson had three hits and one RBI. Bryson Jeffreys and Carter Crumpton finished with two hits and one RBI each and Love pitched four innings of relief for the win, striking out five.

Vinemont 9, Falkville 8: Bryant Owens and Kole Fitzgerald had a hit and two RBIs each for Falkville on Thursday.

Dawson Fowler had three hits, including two doubles, for the Blue Devils and Denver Comstock had one hit and one RBI.

Huntsville 7, Austin 0: Ethan Wynn doubled to account for Austin's only hit on Thursday.

Soccer

Decatur girls 6, Cullman 1: Hope Bouchillon scored four goals in a big win for Decatur on Thursday.

Natalie Hill and Carrigan Collins had one goal each for the Red Raiders, while Carleigh Daluz was in goal for the win.

Decatur continues play at home against Grissom on March 19.

West Morgan girls 6, Haleyville 2: Keira Hammonds, Bella Jankowski, Myra Ramos, Ana Segura, Stacy Blanco and Jackye Delgado had one goal each for West Morgan in its area opener on Thursday.

Madison Parker had a pair of assists for the Rebels, while Briseydi Dorsett and Hammonds added one assist each.

West Morgan (5-5) continues play on Tuesday at Russellville.
