Prep report: Superior starts off track season at UW-Stout

Mar. 27—Superior took its track team to a pair of indoor track meets at the University of Wisconsin-Stout last week.

Girls' distance running has been an early highlight for the Spartans, with sophomore Elena Almonte taking fourth in the March 22 Northern Badger Classic for Large Schools in the 1,600-meter run.

Almonte posted a time of 5 minutes, 42.87 seconds in the event. Earlier in the week at the Blue Devil Invite on March 19, just ahead of teammate Tayler McMeekin in fourth.

High jumper Josephine Hanson cleared 5 feet and finished second for Superior at the Blue Devil Invite, tier best finish across the two competitions.

At the Northern Badger Classic, which featured 27 schools from around the region, Dawson Craker was 13th in the 400, while Jaden Karren took 14th in the 3,200.

At the Blue Devil Invite among 26 teams, Superior's Tyler Willoughby tied for seventh in the pole vault, while Kraker was 14th in the 400 and Jacob Lind 14th in the 800.
