Prep report: Sanigar's 26 points lead Superior past Duluth East

Jan. 30—Senior Tre Sanigar scored 26 points and was 11-for-12 at the free throw line to lead the Superior to a 73-48 boys basketball win over Duluth East Tuesday.

The Spartans led by six at the half, but turned up the defensive pressure, allowing just 19 East points in the final 18 minutes.

Calvin Anderson scored 19 for Superior and Brandon Aker had 10.

Ty Nyberg led the Greyhounds with 13 points, while Caleb Winkels had 12 in the loss.

Moose Lake/Willow River's Nolan Nelson went for 29 points and Adam Neumann had 21 as the Rebels cruised to an 83-69 win over Rush City.

Despite allowing a 45-point second half, MLWR jumped out to a 50-24 lead at halftime and never looked back.

Eli Youngs joined Nelson and Neumann in double figures with 19 points.

Two Harbors senior Isaiah Hietala went for 32 points as the Agates edged Cromwell-Wright 72-68 Tuesday.

Dylan Nyberg poured in 28 points for the Cardinals, but they couldn't quite keep pace with Two Harbors.

Jace Gomez scored 12 for the Agates and Thor Tokvam had 10.

Brady Dahl added 16 for Cromwell-Wright.

Greenway's Stephen McGee scored 22 points as the Raiders rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to top Ely 52-51.

Jack Davies scored 32 points — hitting seven 3-pointers in the process — to lead Ely, while Caid Chittum had 11 points and Drew Johnson had eight.

Gage Olson joined McGee in double figures with 14 points for Greenway.

Bryce Priem scored 31 to help lead Northwestern to a 93-48 win over Bloomer Tuesday.

The Tigers led 39-30 at halftime, but exploded for 54 second half points and held the Rails to just 18.

Gavin Williams scored 14 points and Boden Teal had 11 for the Tigers.

Jaxson Fizel led Spooner with 12 points.

Mountain Iron-Buhl's T.J. DuChamp scored 29 points and the Rangers throttled International Falls 95-33.

Chris King scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Micaden Clines had 17 points and Rylen Niska had 13.

Proctor sophomore Chloe Carlson had 14 points and recovered from a slow first half to lead the Rails to a 60-53 win over Cloquet Tuesday.

Carlson had just two first-half points, but hit a pair of 3-points and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line down the stretch for Proctor.

Presley Tapani finished with 13 points and Lily Smith scored 12 for Proctor.

Kiley Issendorf was the only Lumberjacks player in double digits with 17 points.

Kasey Lamppa scored a late game-winner for the Wolverines to pay off their territorial advantage on Tuesday night at Iron Trail Motors Event Center in Virginia.

Rock Ridge held a 43-23 shot advantage for the game and 18-5 in the third period but the breakthrough goal didn't come until 4:34 remained.

Grady Dimberio scored in the second period to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead but Benson Peterson evened it up for Marshall at 2:48 of the third period.

Ryan Rothfork made 21 saves for Rock Ridge (16-5-1), while Kaenan Smith stopped 39 for Marshall (13-7-1).

Cory Backstrom won it late for the Hunters, scoring with 3:16 to play just 34 seconds after the Warriors had tied the game on a third-period power play at Essentia Duluth Heritage Center.

Braeden Erickson had Denfeld's other goal and Nolan Harju assisted on both. Connor Doyle made 29 saves for Denfeld (10-9-1).

The Rails may normally be a defensively oriented team but on Tuesday, they let their hockey hair down in a road win at Pine City Area.

After a 2-2 tie in the first intermission, the Rails scored three straight for a 5-2 lead by the first minute of the third period.

Tanner Ross scored into an empty net late to cap a hat trick, the first since Opening Night (Nov. 24 vs. Wadena-Deer Creek) for the team's leading point-getter. Austin Bryant had a goal and three assists for Proctor, while Carson Pavlowich had three helpers.

A.J. Reyelts made 25 saves for Proctor (15-6).

The Bluejackets romped at the Hibbing Memorial Arena, as Kelin Elsner scored four times and Isaiah Hildenbrand had a hat trick in his own right.

Hibbing/Chisholm scored five times in the first period and four in the second to trigger running time.

Rex Walli made seven saves for the shutout for Hibbing/Chisholm (16-7).

Goalie Ray Anderson blanked the defending Class AA state-champion Stars on 20 saves, as the Hilltoppers bounced back forcefully from a loss to Moose Lake Area on Monday night.

Ilsa Lindaman scored twice in the first period to get Marshall (19-3-1) going and Nina Thorson tacked on a power-play tally early in the second.

Mercury Bischoff notched her seventh hat trick of the season for the Lightning, who rolled to victory at Yanmar Arena in Grand Rapids. She scored twice in the first period and finished it off with her third and the game's final goal late in the second period.

Riley Toivonen made 20 saves for the shutout for GRG (14-9-1), which got two assists apiece from Kylie DeBay and Mira Rajala.

Ella Brisbois made 37 stops for Duluth (9-14-1).
