PREP GIRLS TENNIS: Houpt reaches quarterfinals

Oct. 19—ARLINGTON HEIGHTS — Danville's Anna Houpt rolled through the first three rounds on Thursday to reach Friday's quarterfinals of the IHSA Class 1A state girls tennis meet.

Houpt beat Elmhurst IC Catholic's Allie Geiger 6-3, 6-0 in the first round, beat Highland's Ruthie Manor 6-2, 6-0 and Chicago University's Sophia Holt 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday and will await her opponent on Friday at Arlington Heights Hersey High School.

Teammate Reese Rundle started with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Centralia's Sophi Barrow, but lost in the second round to Elgin Academy's Priyanka Bhogaraju 6-0-6-1 to get knocked into the second round of the consolation bracket, which she will start on Friday against Ottawa Township's Layne Krug.

With eight team points, Houpt and Rundle has the Vikings tied for fifth overall.

Schlarman Academy's Maya Jenny started her day with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Dixon's Grace Ferguson, but lost to Dunlap's Shikha Agarwal 6-1, 6-0 to go to the consolation bracket. Jenny would beat Teutopolis' Abbie Lee 6-1, 6-1 to advance to Friday's third round.
